Job Title: Assisted Living Caregiver
The Lead Personal Care Assistant (PCA) is responsible for overseeing and providing direct personal care to residents while managing a team of caregivers to ensure high standards of care are met. This hands-on leadership role combines caregiving duties with supervisory tasks, including task distribution, scheduling, and coordinating daily operations in the home. The Lead PCA works closely with the Nursing Supervisor,Facility Manager, Assisted Living Director(ALD), and other key team members to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and to foster a compassionate and effective caregiving environment.
Key Responsibilities:Personal Care & Resident Assistance:
- Assist residents with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Help residents with mobility, including transferring from bed to wheelchair, walking, and positioning.
- Monitor and record residents' health status, including vital signs, and report any changes to nursing staff.
- Administer medications as prescribed, ensuring residents receive correct dosages and assist with medication management.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, helping residents participate in social and recreational activities to enhance their quality of life.
Leadership & Supervision of Caregivers:
- Oversee the caregiver team during your shift, ensuring all duties are completed in accordance with care plans.
- Distribute tasks and assign responsibilities to caregivers to ensure smooth operations throughout the shift.
- Coordinate with the Registered Nurse (RN) and ALD to ensure all caregiving activities meet compliance standards.
- Manage the caregiver team’s schedule, including shift coverage and time-off requests.
- Monitor caregiver performance and provide on-the-spot guidance as needed to ensure quality care.
Administrative & Coordination Duties:
- Assist in coordinating appointments, transportation, and other logistics for residents as needed.
- Order supplies, medications, and food, ensuring the facility is fully stocked and residents' needs are met without interruption.
- Collaborate with the team to assemble the monthly meal plan and ensure that residents receive proper nutrition and hydration.
- Manage the ordering of medications and track inventory to ensure timely delivery and avoid shortages.
- Provide communication to the resident’s physician, pharmacy, and other healthcare professionals as needed to ensure proper care.
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating resident care services, ensuring continuity and effectiveness of care.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Work in coordination with the RN and ALD to ensure the facility is in compliance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations.
- Monitor and ensure that all caregiving practices are performed in a safe, respectful, and professional manner.
- Report and address any incidents, accidents, or concerns in accordance with facility protocols.
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss care plans, improvements, and best practices.
Documentation & Communication:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of care provided, including changes in residents' conditions.
- Ensure that all resident care is in compliance with confidentiality regulations and documentation standards.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and other team members to provide high-quality care.
- Contribute to the development and updating of individualized care plans in collaboration with the care team.
Emergency Response & Safety:
- Respond to emergencies and provide first aid or CPR as necessary.
- Ensure that all staff adhere to safety protocols and respond to emergencies according to facility guidelines.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a caregiving role, preferably in an assisted living or long-term care setting.
- At least 6 months to 1 year of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Certification as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse population, including residents with cognitive impairments such as dementia.
- Physical ability to perform caregiving tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
- Ability to handle confidential information and maintain resident privacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) or other healthcare management systems.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations for assisted living and long-term care facilities.
