Position Overview:
The Director of Safety Operations will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with OSHA,
MSHA, and other State and Federal regulations across all our locations. This key leadership
position will oversee the development and implementation of safety programs, fostering a
culture of safety and continuous improvement. With two direct reports, the Director of Safety Operations will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external customers to establish our company as a recognized leader in safety and quality.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and guidance in the development, implementation, and
continuous improvement of safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA,
and other relevant regulations.
- Lead safety meetings with both customers and internal stakeholders, fostering strong
relationships and promoting a culture of safety awareness.
- Utilize safety observation processes and data to identify areas for improvement and
recommend proactive measures to enhance safety performance.
- Manage and process claims related to workers compensation, general liability, and
other safety incidents, ensuring prompt reporting and thorough investigation.
- Conduct comprehensive accident/incident investigations, including root cause analysis,
and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Perform scheduled and random safety observations to enforce OSHA regulations,
MSHA requirements, and company Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring
adherence to all applicable Federal and State regulations.
- Stay informed on industry-specific safety regulations and maintain a deep understanding
of OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations.
- Facilitate continuous education and development of safety expertise, pursuing relevant
certifications and credentials.
- Effectively communicate safety initiatives, requirements, and updates to employees and
stakeholders through clear and concise written and oral communication.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills, providing guidance and mentorship to the safety
team and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and ensure a good driving record.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a
related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in safety management, preferably in the construction,
quarry, or highway paving industry.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations, with
a proven track record of ensuring compliance.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational
Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively
convey safety-related information to diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to conduct thorough
accident/incident investigations and implement effective corrective actions.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and inspire a team, and
foster a culture of safety excellence.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships
with internal and external stakeholders.
- Flexibility to travel to multiple locations and work in various environments, including
outdoor settings and exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Must reside less than 1 hour from Monroe, NC
