What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Academic Success Initiatives position at Tulane University?
The director leads a team of professional and peer academic success coaches that support students as they pursue their academic goals. As a key member of the leadership team of the Office of Retention and Student Success, the director will develop and sustain strategic partnerships with campus departments and staff committees in support of the University’s retention initiatives. The director will oversee a team that responds to student success alerts and referrals, initiates outreach to students, and coordinates support for students at risk for success. Additionally, the director will coordinate the College’s Quality of Work initiatives on behalf of the NTC Dean as well as maintain a caseload of FTF students as well as other at-risk students.
As a team leader, the director will conceptualize, develop, and implement success-coaching programs for students at risk for completion. In direct support of the University’s goal to improve its retention and graduation rates, the director will develop and manage processes to measure student success outcomes as well as implement the College’s ‘Finish in Four’ initiative. The director will also continually monitor the efficiency of student appointment availability and success program offerings. To ensure the highest quality in the student coaching experience, the director will design ongoing training for the success coaches to continually improve their academic coaching skills and practices. As a member of the leadership team in the Office of Retention and Student Success, the director will work collaboratively with the leaders of retention data, the Academic Learning and Tutoring Center, and the Academic Programs office as well as complete other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of standard computer software such as MS office suite, email, etc. and ability to learn and utilize specific software necessary for academic advising practice.

OR
- Five (5) years of directly related experience.
- Ph.D. or terminal degree in higher education, social work, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience within a higher education setting.
- Experience in academic advising, disability services, or retention programming.
- Experience in an educational setting advising students at-risk and special populations.
Salary : $68,000 - $86,100
