Job Summary
The Large Animal Caretaker is primarily responsible for cleaning stalls, barns and wards daily. and maintaining clean and sanitized outside water troughs and feed containers. Other duties include unloading hay, feed and bedding, maintaining cleanliness of outside paddocks; maintaining the pasture in standard condition; and the upkeep of university owned horse and cattle herds. The Large Animal Caretaker oversee the daily operations of the animal facilities in the Large Animal
Teaching Hospital (LATH) to ensure that the welfare of all client- owned animals and university-owned animals are maintained and monitored as per the instructions from clinicians. Reports to the Farm Manager.

Essential Job Duties
- Upkeep and health maintenance of University and client-owned animals.
- Provide daily written observations on all animals regarding feed and water consumption and general well-being and provide updates to the Farm Manager.
- Assist the Farm Manager in obtaining and prepping animals for instructional labs.
- Clean and sanitize stalls and barns daily and properly dispose of stall bedding.
- Keep feed room swept and cleaned.
- Clean and sanitize water buckets and troughs daily.
- Keep paddock and outside exercise areas clean.
- Feeding and watering animals as needed.
- Unloading and storing feed, hay and bedding in the appropriate areas.
- Assist Farm Manager with inventory of hay and other feedstuffs.
- Assist with pasture maintenance and upkeep.
- Mix feed rations according to clinician instructions.
- Assist with animal transportation.
- Weekend and holiday work will be required from time to time.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Farm Manager, LATH.
- Director, or clinicians on duty. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Experience working with farm animals
Physical Demands
- Ability to operate farm equipment (tractor, bush hog, pressure washer etc.
- Be able to lift 50 lbs or more without difficulty.
Skills and Attributes
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
