Job Title: Boat Finisher Technician

Job Summary: We are looking for a skilled Boat Finisher Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for the final stages of boat construction, including finishing, painting, sanding, polishing, and applying protective coatings to ensure high-quality and aesthetically pleasing finished products. The ideal candidate will have experience in boat finishing techniques, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of marine coatings and materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sand, prep, and smooth boat surfaces to ensure proper adhesion of finishes and coatings.
  • Apply gel coat, varnish, paint, and other protective coatings to boat surfaces, including hulls, decks, and interior areas.
  • Perform high-quality polishing and buffing to achieve a smooth, shiny finish.
  • Inspect finished products for defects, ensuring all areas meet quality standards and client specifications.
  • Collaborate with other technicians to complete boat builds and repairs on time.
  • Mask off areas that should not be painted or coated, ensuring precision in all applications.
  • Use a variety of tools such as sanders, buffers, spray guns, and other equipment to apply finishes.
  • Maintain and clean finishing tools and equipment regularly.
  • Ensure all work meets industry standards, including safety and environmental regulations related to coatings and finishes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve finishing issues, such as imperfections in coatings or surface blemishes.
  • Maintain detailed records of all work performed, including materials used and hours worked.
  • Work with the team to meet deadlines and ensure customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in marine finishing, carpentry, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in boat finishing or a similar role, particularly in the marine industry.
  • Proficiency in applying gel coats, paints, varnishes, and other finishes.
  • Knowledge of sanding, buffing, and polishing techniques to achieve high-quality finishes.
  • Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and spray equipment.
  • Strong eye for detail and the ability to identify imperfections in surfaces and finishes.
  • Knowledge of marine coatings and their applications for different boat materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or instructions for finishing work.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot finishing-related issues.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification or training in marine coatings or finishing techniques.
  • Experience with high-end custom finishes or luxury yacht building.
  • Familiarity with environmental safety practices, such as proper disposal of paint and other chemicals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Work Environment:

  • Work tasks sometimes requires exposure to chemicals, paints, and fumes.
  • Physical labor is involved, including standing for long periods and the ability to lift and handle heavy materials.
