Position Summary
The school kitchen staff member is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to students, following strict food safety guidelines, by prepping ingredients, cooking dishes according to established menus, maintaining a clean kitchen, and ensuring proper food storage while adhering to health and safety regulations. Key duties include food preparation, serving meals, cleaning workstations, maintaining inventory, dishwashing, and receiving deliveries and properly putting away.
Key responsibilities:
Food preparation
Prepping ingredients like chopping vegetables, slicing meats, and measuring ingredients.
Cooking meals according to established recipes and dietary restrictions.
Following proper food handling practices to prevent cross-contamination.
Serving meals
Portioning food accurately and serving meals to students in a timely manner.
Operating serving lines and ensuring proper food presentation.
Kitchen sanitation
Cleaning and sanitizing work surfaces, equipment, and utensils.
Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.
Disposing of food waste properly.
Inventory management
Receiving deliveries and checking food quality.
Rotating stock to ensure freshness and prevent spoilage.
Maintaining accurate inventory records
Compliance with regulations
Adhering to local health and safety standards.
Following allergen guidelines and labeling procedures
Required skills
Basic cooking skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines
Attention to detail and good hygiene practices
Ability to follow instructions and standardized recipes
Basic math skills for portioning and measuring
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to lift 40lb.
Ability to stand for long periods
Ability to keep accurate meal production records
Ability to take accurate student meal counts and basic cashier duties
Qualifications
Experience working in a commercial kitchen (preferred)
Experience prepping for and serving meals for large groups (preferred)
Safe and expeditious knife skills
A working knowledge of Food Service Health and Safety Guidelines (ServSafe training preferred).

Physical Requirements
The work environment is in a mixed environment, with moderate noise, and temperatures that are controlled.
The work is light/moderate work, requiring exertion of up to 40 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
