Position Overview
The Director of Human Resources (HR) is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all HR functions for the Two Rivers Habitat for Humanity. This position will be responsible for creating and executing human resources strategies that support the organization’s mission, vision, and values, as well as managing day-to-day HR operations. The Director will provide guidance to senior leadership on employee relations, talent management, compensation, benefits, compliance, training, and organizational development. The Director of HR will foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture, ensuring that the affiliate remains an employer of choice in the nonprofit sector.
Key Responsibilities:
1. HR Strategy & Leadership
o Develop and implement HR strategies that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
o Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director and leadership team on all HR matters.
o Champion the organization’s values, promoting a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and diversity.
o Monitor and assess the effectiveness of HR programs, ensuring continuous improvement.
2. Talent Management & Development
o Lead the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes to attract and retain top talent.
o Oversee employee training and development programs that foster continuous learning and growth.
o Implement performance management systems to drive employee engagement and organizational effectiveness.
o Work with leadership to identify talent gaps and develop succession planning strategies.
3. Employee Relations
o Provide guidance and support to staff on employee relations issues, ensuring a fair, respectful, and compliant work environment.
o Mediate and resolve workplace conflicts, addressing employee concerns in a proactive and timely manner.
o Ensure the affiliate maintains open lines of communication between staff and management.
4. Compensation & Benefits
o Collaborate with third party benefits coordinator (WAGroup) to oversee compensation and benefits programs, ensuring competitiveness and alignment with organizational objectives.
o Regularly review salary structures and benefits packages to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity.
o Educate staff on available benefits, open enrollment periods, and other HR-related topics.
5. Compliance & Policy Development
o Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
o Develop and enforce HR policies and procedures that promote a safe, inclusive, and compliant workplace.
o Maintain employee records and ensure that all HR processes comply with legal and regulatory
standards.
6. Organizational Culture & Employee Engagement
o Cultivate a work environment that promotes employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
o Plan and implement employee recognition programs, wellness initiatives, and team-building activities.
o Collect feedback through surveys and direct communication to continuously improve workplace culture.
7. HR Systems & Reporting
o Collaborate with our third-party payroll processor, SmartHR, to ensure the maintenance of accurate records and facilitate the automation of human resources processes.
o Provide regular reporting and data analysis to leadership regarding key HR metrics (turnover, employee engagement, diversity, etc.).
o Continuously assess and improve HR technology to enhance organizational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3-5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, compensation, benefits, and employee relations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to lead and manage complex HR projects and initiatives.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems, MS Office Suite, and other HR-related software.
- SHRM-SCP or PHR certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.

Salary & Time Commitment
Wage: $60,000-$65,000, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Schedule: Full-time with flexible scheduling (including evenings and weekends) to accommodate affiliate activity.
Benefit eligible – current benefits: Paid Time Off (PTO includes vacation, sick leave, and Holidays), disability and group term life insurance (employer-paid), SIMPLE IRA with employer match (up to 3%), health insurance (60/40 employer/employee premium split), Health Savings and Dependent Care Spending accounts available (employee paid).
