Physical Requirements: This position requires walking, standing, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling moderately heavy (up to 50 pounds), and occasionally heavier weights with assistance. Incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, motorized high-lift, etc. as well as other hard to reach places, and in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent must be in good physical condition, have good eyesight with or without glasses and cannot be colorblind.
Working Conditions: Work is accomplished from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, motorized high-lift, as well as other hard to reach places. Incumbent stands, stoops, bends, kneels, crawls, climbs and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions, oftentimes in cramped, poorly illuminated, warm and humid interstitial and pipe spaces. Work is accomplished with hands over head, in confined areas, using arm, shoulder, and back muscles in affecting repairs, installation, and modifying piping. Incumbent must work in close proximity to persons who are ill and must adjust accordingly. Exposure to various contagions and infections is a constant hazard. Work is done inside and outside, in heat and cold in areas that are poorly lit, cramped and confined, dusty, dirty, and greasy. At times, installations and repairs are accomplished in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. Occasionally work is accomplished at such heights as rooftops. Incumbent is subject to the danger of falling from ladders and scaffolds. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, infections, and burns from using oxy-acetylene cutting and brazing equipment and soldering equipment.
