Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
The individual in this role will be a part of a team exploring models of respiratory disease and viral infection and approaches to prevent infection or reduce disease using vaccination and therapeutics. The individual will develop and implement animal models of vaccination, infection, and treatment involving a variety of BSL2 and BSL3 pathogens. They will develop and implement assays to define immunological and virological endpoints, as well as complete molecular assays. The individual will mentor graduate and undergraduate students as well as other personnel in the Center for Vaccines and Immunology. They will present their research in regular internal meetings and external conferences and draft manuscripts and reports for publication.

- Manage time and multitask to enable oversight of multiple projects and studies as well as supervise multiple trainees
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse and motivated team members; Design and execute complex immunological, virological, and related studies, collect and record data, and analyze results to covey to their supervisor and others;
- Competency in aseptic technique and appropriate microbial practices for working with human respiratory pathogens (BSL2)
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques
- Strong experience in flow cytometry and high-dimensional immunologic and/or transcriptomic data analysis
- Organize data and ideas to draft and revise manuscripts and funding applications as well as prepare and present at scientific meetings.
- Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Carrying up to 20 lbs.
- Manual dexterity to work with small, delicate equipment.
- Work with small animals.
- Wear personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection.

- Design and execute studies to develop animal models of vaccination against infection, including assessment of therapeutic antibodies, virologic and immunologic endpoints, and pathogenicity.
- Collect, analyze and report data from studies, including detailed record-keeping and use of standard operating procedures.
- Develop, validate, and implement virologic, immunologic, and molecular biology assays and tools, including high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell RNAseq, and similar complex analyses.
- Generate Standard Operating Procedures, troubleshoot as needed, train other laboratory members, and maintain the resources for these assays and tools.
- Oversee and advance collaborative research project(s) with internal and external collaborators. Effectively communicate with collaborators, both orally and via written communication.
- Provide data, results, and project summaries in written and presentation formats.
- Meet agreed upon milestones and deadlines.
- Professionally and respectfully interact with all personnel and collaborators.
- Professionally work with and train students, other research personnel, and trainees.
- Contribute to maintaining an organized, tidy, and safe laboratory and working environment.
- Contribute to shared laboratory duties and responsibly use and maintain laboratory equipment.
