Purpose of the Position

The Financial Analyst, FP&A must have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to remain organized while working in a dynamic fast paced work environment. This role will provide broad support to senior finance team members, including; ad hoc data analysis, query research, preparation and distribution of periodic financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders, etc.

 

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus. 

  • Anticipated starting salary of $62,500; pay rate negotiable based on experience and qualifications

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generate and analyze monthly departmental P&L statements
  • Provide verbal and written commentary to recurring expenditure variances
  • Provide guidance on run rate variances, tracking actions to mitigate adverse impact to plan
  • Run custom financial reporting out of Management Reporter after month-end close
  • Pull and analyze general ledger transaction detail reports out of Great Plains
  • Research budget-related and other various financial inquiries from business owners
  • Prepare ad hoc reconciliations (revenue, expenses, labor)
  • Review general ledger transaction detail to flag inconsistencies in coding
  • Make recommendations to improve accuracy
  • Formulate adjusting journal entries as needed
  • Validate month-end Concur interface reporting prior to posting
  • Provide guidance regarding natural account/department assignment at systems level and at transaction level
  • Escalate potential user-driven inaccuracies and/or violations of company policy
  • Prepare headcount/rate analysis by department
  • Maintain highest level of confidentiality when working with sensitive pay rate information
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for improved operating efficiency
  • Highlight areas of risk to P&L targets
  • Isolate and quantify drivers of variance
  • Ad hoc scenario/sensitivity analysis
  • Document operational changes impacting accounting processes/reporting
  • Maintain internal tracking of business information owners/approvers
  • Support procurement team with coding alignment issues, expenditure forecasting, and transactional approval as needed
  • Support budget creation and operational planning activities during year-end
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance/economics from a top-tier college/university (required)
  • 1-3 years in financial planning & analysis, or related corporate finance/accounting field (preferred)
  • Demonstrated critical problem solving skills and strong attention to detail (required)
  • Strong knowledge of Excel including advanced functions, excellent formatting and presentation skills (required)
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data into snapshots appropriate for senior management use (preferred)
  • Good communication skills, specifically an ability/willingness to communicate effectively with senior management (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems (required), prior experience using Great Plains, Management Reporter, Concur, Marketplace (preferred)
