Decision Making Authority: General Superintendent must possess the ability to change the direction, methodology and timeliness of the project on multiple levels. Stopping work, personnel and direction of job to ensure it is meeting timeliness and profitability indexes while adhering to safety protocols.
Position Overview: Responsible for ensuring jobs are completed in a manner that will meet profitability expectations, safety and quality control guidelines. Responsible for job completion: executing job in a safe manner, driving continuous improvement, innovation and flexibility on meaningful job metrics. Position requires a variety of duties associated with the management of jobs equipment, and safety enforcement.
Position Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Position requires close collaboration with: Vice President, Superintendents, Field Engineers / Assistant Project Manager, Field Personnel, Estimating and Design Team, Client Project Managers.
Significant Job Duties:
o Job Completion in a safe, controlled and profitable manner.
· How things get done:
o Drilling technique implementation.
o Equipment modification to effectively complete job in safe manner
o Adhering to scheduling measurable and timelines. Costs in the field.
o Teamwork, collaboration with field personnel, job planning, communicating changes and experiences of work to avoid confusion.
o Utilization of techniques and continuous improvement processes and procedures.
o Training of personnel and safety compliance.
o Adherence to legal, compliance, appropriate accreditation guidelines and organizational policies/procedures.
o Ensure continuing education of applicable techniques and equipment that can be utilized in future endeavors.
1. 60% Supervise All Field Superintendents and Crews
• Field Inspections
• Supervise all Field Superintendents to complete all projects on time and on budget
• See that all work is being done with quality workmanship
• Identifies problems and solves them to cut costly down time before they happen
• Maintain positive atmosphere for crews
• Ensure the timeliness of submission of job data and metrics. Approving and monitoring field expenses from Superintendents.
• Keep up with expenses of the Superintendents to monitor waste
• Answer questions from employees under their supervision about benefits and payroll
• Approve time off requested by Superintendents and Field Personnel.
2. 25% Collaborate with Management, Engineering Project Managers
• Read and understand specifications and drawings for projects.
• Do pre-con meetings and site visits before crew mobilization to site.
• See that all employees and subcontractors follow all UMA safety protocols.
• Set schedules and make orders of tooling and special needs for projects.
• Work close with customer to meet their needs and schedules.
• Oversee repairs in the shop to ensure they are done in timely manner and within budget.
• Travel to job sites to ensure the highest quality work is being done.
• Oversee layout and setting up of new job sites.
3. 10 % Equipment Management
• Equipment Management, procurement and logistics.
• Fabrication and designing drilling implementations.
• Supervise in house mechanic and preventive maintenance upkeep.
4. 5% Safety Management
• Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices and correct job site hazards.
• Oversee the training of employees.
• Safety inspections for OSHA.
• Maintain safety inspections on equipment and train field personnel on proper operating techniques.
Essential Skills, Experience and Expertise:
· Education: Associates Degree or equivalent
· Experience: 8-10 years’ experience in heavy/geotechnical construction experience.
· Action oriented foresight and innovative approach to completion of job.
· Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Requires excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Able to effectively collaborate with diverse groups yet smoothly manages individual and group conflicts. Handles last minute pressure and keeps calm when faced with competing demands and priorities.
· Attention to Detail / Organization and Short/Long Range Goals: Excellent skills required.
· Driver’s License: CDL Class A Required. ACI Shotcrete Certification. 10 Hour OSHA
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed in an outside field setting. Work involves numerous irregularities in schedules and extended hours.
· Interaction levels with others: Requires high levels of interactions with others internal and external to the company.
· Position requires travel within service area, within 600 miles and beyond as needed to fulfill job goals. If not traveling, work location is the home office.
· Ability to work under pressure and deadlines while maintaining professional demeanor.
· Sit / Stand / Walk / Stoop: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined.
· Use of Phone/ Computer /Software / Office Equipment: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined.
· Climb / Pull / Lift: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined. Move and lift up to 75 pounds.
· Temperatures ranges for work environment: Mostly a typical office environment with temperatures of 50-80°F, but can experience temperatures from 0 °F to 100°F when performing tasks outside of office.
· Noise: Noise levels reflect typical outside field and office environments and may require hearing protection when using certain equipment or entering certain areas.
