The Unitarian Universalist Church of Fargo-Moorhead is seeking a part-time Coordinator of Children's Religious Education to work up to 10 hours per week, including Sundays. The starting pay is $17 per hour. This is a fun and flexible job that would be perfect for a college student!Teaching experience is preferred but not required. POSITION SUMMARY The Coordinator of Children's Religious Education participates on the Program Committee, and along with other sub-committee members, establishes a philosophy of religious instruction and implements it by designing an overall curriculum plan. The coordinator administers the Religious Education program, including providing lesson plan suggestions to the Youth Guide, registration of students, childcare provision, reports budget development, recording weekly attendance, and maintaining all requested records. The coordinator is responsible for supervising the Youth Guide and the childcare providers and is responsible for signing off on their respective timesheets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruit teachers and other assistants for the RE program, including infant and toddler childcare staff. Provide direction and lesson plan suggestions to teachers and assistants, for the implementation of the Sunday RE curriculum. For the most part, curricula will be taken from the UUA sources.
- Responsible for class registration, class lists, and recording attendance of children in the assigned class.
- Oversee the childcare staff, assistant RE instructors, and volunteers for the RE program. * Provide written reports monthly to the Program Committee Chair and the Leadership Committee.
- Participate in Quarterly Parent Meetings.
- Assure that timesheets are signed when RE staff arrive and leave, and inform the treasurer and board of supplies needed which includes an annual budget projection
- Remain with children throughout the RE time slot, supervise bathroom and snacks as needed, and ensure that children stay in the assigned RE room during RE activities unless specifically designed otherwise. All children must remain within the supervision of the assistant/teacher at all times.
- Maintain a quiet environment at all times.
- Maintain the assigned RE space.
- Ensure the safety of children, and exercise appropriate discipline {no hitting, belittling, or shaming}, using redirection first.
- Clean up the area after class, sterilizing as needed.
- Work with the Church Administrator as needed to help update the RE portion of the FMUU website.
- Update and maintain the Facebook Parent site and send out weekly updates to families.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Religious Education training, preferably under the UUA; and/or relevant experience with youth education.
- Must have a clear background check and provide appropriate references as requested.
- Organizational skills and leadership abilities.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal relations with children, parents, childcare providers, and other volunteers.
