Summary

The Investigative Coordinator is responsible for coordinating fair housing investigations, preserving and controlling evidence, providing testimony regarding investigations, and conducting tester training with our Acting for Justice trainees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for leading and structuring multiple investigations conducted in response to allegations of housing discrimination in response to allegations and complaints of housing discrimination.
  • Conducts research, assesses housing markets, and collects background information to develop systemic testing investigations, appropriate testing strategies, and credible tester assignments.
  • Coordinates and selects testers for each investigation and prepares tester assignments and instructions.
  • Maintains communication with, provides feedback to, and supervises testers throughout the testing process.
  • Serves as tester when needed.
  • Collects and assembles, stores, and exercises control over evidence obtained from investigations, and maintains the chain of custody on all evidence, including equipment and recordings.
  • Reviews all test file materials and prepares preliminary analysis of test results. Maintains accurate and complete information in paper and electronic files regarding all job duties.
  • Provides testimony regarding investigative activities.
  • Periodically participates in the recruitment, screening, interviewing, hiring and training of testers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Investigations or Executive Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Highly effective written and oral communications.
  • Excellent organizational competence and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as creatively and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Capability to work creatively and effectively with diverse groups of people and organizations.
  • Problem-solving capacity.
  • Commitment to vigorous enforcement of fair housing and fair lending laws.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of fair housing laws and issues, housing market dynamics, tenants’ rights, mortgage lending practices, and/or housing subsidy programs.
  • Familiarity with communities in the Albany-Troy-Schenectady metropolitan area.
  • Previous experience in test coordination, investigative work, housing market research, civil rights advocacy, and/or paralegal work.
  • Knowledge of language(s) other than English.
  • BA/BS degree or commensurate experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
