What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Grants Manager position at United Way of Great Knoxville?

As the Community Grants Manager, you will be at the heart of our mission to support and uplift our community. You will play a vital role in managing and facilitating our grant programs, connecting with nonprofit organizations, and ensuring that resources are effectively directed toward initiatives that promote positive change. This position is ideal for an individual passionate about community development, equity, and philanthropy. Will adhere to the principles and philosophy of United Way of Greater Knoxville (UWGK).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Impact: Lead an inclusive strategy to transform systems, promoting self-sufficiency and equitable outcomes.
  • Develop and oversee grant processes, from application to evaluation, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities that distribute funds to community partners.
  • Efficiently manage the grant application review process, tracking progress and compliance.
  • Connect nonprofits to community resources, including capacity building, volunteers, and other nonprofits.
  • Attend community or partner meetings to collect and share data to increase awareness around systemic issues.
  • Participate in cross-departmental meetings to align capacity building, systems work, programmatic initiatives, and grantmaking.
Employees: Create an exemplary and people-centric workplace through active engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from various departments to align grantmaking efforts with broader organizational goals.
  • Participate in meetings and initiatives that enhance programmatic initiatives and organizational impact.
  • Create opportunities to strengthen organizational culture and improve the employee experience.
  • Engage in various UWGK committees, workgroups, and activities to support the strategic plan and mission.
  • Implement and define opportunities to include DEI in all aspects of work.
Stakeholders: Maximize sustainable change through collaboration.
  • Recruit and manage a diverse pool of volunteers for committees.
  • Provide quality volunteer experiences that are accessible and inclusive.
  • Create and facilitate training around grantmaking and other topics related to UWGK’s work.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to establish funding criteria and guidelines.
Operational Excellence: Steward every resource to its highest and best use.
  • Work with other departments to improve and develop processes.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, needs, and systemic issues, contributing to informed decision-making.
  • Share data-driven findings to raise awareness and advocate for positive change.
  • Collaborate with marketing to tell UWGK’s impact story.
  • Share nonprofit needs in order to create the best possible services.
Revenue: Cultivate revenue streams that leverage relationships and opportunities.
  • Administer grants from outside sources as needed, especially the Emergency Food and Shelter Program.
  • Provide referrals to external resources such as the Alliance for Better Nonprofits (ABN) and Volunteer East TN.
  • Provide training to expand the resources of ABN.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's preferred). Lived experience relevant to this role will also be considered and can supplement instead of an educational experience.
  • Previous experience in grant management, nonprofit engagement, or related roles.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and data analysis skills.
  • Experience working with computerized software, such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, or other similar programs.

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set level, experience and training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward merit-based performance, UWGK typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $50,000 - $60,000/year.
