The Mission and Opportunity
United Way of Northern California (UWNC), based in Redding, is part of the world’s largest philanthropic
network and the globe’s largest non-governmental funder of social services. UWNC fights for the health,
education, and financial stability of all residents in its nine-county territory and is there for residents in
times of crisis. UWNC aims to expand operations fully throughout the region. Services include, but are not
limited to, the 211 human services helpline; crisis and disaster relief and recovery; financial stability
programs; activities that address homelessness; and Public Health information and education.
Job Summary
The Office Assistant will perform a wide variety of clerical and technical office support activities for UWNC
programs. The ideal individual will have strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to
maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. The Office Assistant will have the ability to work
independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times
to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greets and directs visitors with a positive, helpful attitude
- Provides basic and accurate information, in-person and via phone/email
- Performs a variety of administrative tasks, including data entry, copying, folding, cutting, and filing
- Ensures reception area and common areas are tidy and presentable
- Answers phones in a professional manner, screening, taking messages, and routing calls as necessary
- Helps maintain office supplies
- Assist Operations Manager in maintaining and cleaning company vehicles; this includes driving the
- Assists with banking transactions, mail deliveries, and other essential errands requiring local travel.

- Performs other related clerical tasks and job duties assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized
- Adept at multitasking
- Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, procedures, and automated systems
- Skilled using MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Proficient in using the Internet for research purposes
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
- Comfortable learning new software and navigating databases
- Able to work effectively with people across diverse backgrounds.
- Passion for United Way’s mission of fighting for the education, health, and financial stability of all
- Comfortable interacting with people from all ethnic and economic backgrounds. Shares UWNC’s passion
- Bilingual/multi-lingual a plus
- Valid Driver’s License
- Can Lift up to 25 pounds
- Can operate comfortably at a keyboard through an eight-hour shift
