Shift: Part-time
The peer support specialist for the Mental Health Recovery Center is responsible to support and enhance the lives of those diagnosed with Mental Illness by providing empathy, hope and support for peers on a mutual journey of recovery.

Responsibilities
- Utilize and teach problem solving techniques with individuals and groups.
- Teach peers how to identify and combat negative self-talk and teach them how to identify and overcome fears.
- Teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience.
- Lead as well as teach consumers how to facilitate recovery dialogues and/or self-management plans so that members can attain personal health goals.
- Greet peers when they enter the Recovery Center.
- Promote healthy, positive and recovery-oriented peer to peer interactions.
- Visit one on one with peers for extra support as needed.
- Support peers in crisis.
- Documentation of services using the Center’s Electronic Health Record and other Provider Portals as required.
- Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
- Participation in meeting performance measures and continuous quality improvement activities, including data collection, tracking, and analysis.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by UnityPoint Health and other funding sources.
- Accomplish all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Lived experience with a serious mental illness with demonstrated stability in recovery.
- Valid driver’s license
- Complete Peer Support Training
- Write, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English
Preferred:
- Experience in working with adults with mental illness.
