The University at Buffalo (UB) Tutoring & Academic Support Services (TASS) office within the Student Success & Academic Support (SSAS) department seeks to hire an innovative and highly professional Associate Director. The Associate Director is directly responsible for day-to-day management and coordination of TASS which provides free tutoring services campus-wide for all UB undergraduate students. The Associate Director ensures all UB students have a place to go for individual and/or small group tutoring, academic coaching, peer mentoring, study areas and access to TASS events and workshops. The Associate Director must build strong relationships and collaborate with campus-wide stakeholders. The Associate Director must remain current on research, best practices and new initiatives regarding tutoring and academic support. This position reports to the Director of TASS.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
  • Responsible for day-to-day management and coordination of TASS operations and campus-wide tutoring services.
  • Provide Coordination and organization regarding TASS utilization of Navigate for the purposes of monitoring TASS services, includes collection and analysis of data to refine and improve tutorial services overall.
  • Supervise and oversee deployment of tutors, academic coaches/peer mentors and workshops in TASS.
  • Management and oversight of all day-to-day operational activities needed to support the success of TASS. Ensure that tutoring and other academic support services provided to students by TASS are thoroughly assessed and monitored.
  • Support First Generation Summer Bridge/Peer Mentoring.
  • Design, implement and teach the Academic Success Strategies (LAI 203) course.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs administration, counseling or related human services field with a minimum of one (1) year of professional experience working with students in a college or university setting and competencies in the following areas:
  • Experience serving and supporting diverse student populations.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail/accuracy.
  • Strong technological/computer competence with working knowledge of MS office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
