University Credit Union (UCU)  seeks a motivated Human Resources Generalist who can deliver on UCU’s service promises by engaging in behaviors that creates and maintains team member loyalty. Position will be hybrid, working some days remotely and 1 or more days per week at our office headquarters in Westwood, Los Angeles.

 

You will impact UCU’s success by performing HR-related duties on a professional level and work closely with senior HR management. This position may carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

And now for the detailed duties of the position:

Essential Duties

  • Maintains personnel files. Prepare new employee orientation materials and update as needed. Maintain new hire, termination and transfer/promotion EEO logs and prepare annual EEO1 and veterans reports.
  • Participates in interviewing prospective employees for hourly jobs, administers pre-employment tests, checks references, processes changes in employee status, and conducts exit interviews. Refers qualified applicants to proper level of management for further screening. Prepares employment offer, ensuring compensation offered is within hiring range for the job grade.
  • Provide other administrative support to the VP HR, such as maintain up-to-date Affirmative Action Plan and prepare annual reports for analysis of Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Completes department projects as assigned. Research and information gathering is conducted as needed. Troubleshoots and resolves internal and external inquiries.
  • Support employee relations.
  • Assist with employment documentation and use of the HRIS/Payroll system as needed. 
  • Attend department meetings, HR monthly conference calls and in-person training/meetings.  
  • Participates in training as offered.
  • Conducts new employee orientation sessions and on the job training, including use of computers and software; conducts training in marketing techniques, health and safety practices, refresher and upgrading training, and policy and procedure training.
  • Assists in administering the organization's benefit programs. Consults with and advises employees on their eligibility for benefits. Recommends changes or additions to the benefits program to reflect employee and organizational needs.
  • Develop job opening announcements for recruitment agencies, Department of Labor, advertising publications, and internal employee notification. Attend Career Fairs as needed.
  • Updates employee job descriptions, and training checklists.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.


Knowledge and Skills

Experience

Human Resources experience desired. Banking and/or Accounting related experience preferred. Previous customer service and clerical experience required. Good overall knowledge of Human Resources, especially the legal aspects, are effectively used and administered in the industry.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

Degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Interpersonal Skills

Ability to communicate effectively with people both verbally and in writing (listens and understands problems and assist staff) at all levels as needed.

Other Skills

Must be familiar with FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, FLSA, EEOC and other federal, state employment laws. Good problem-solving skills and ability to react quickly to arising problems. Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office; word, excel, power point, etc. and comfort with using data base programs.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation.
