What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney position at University of Alabama System Office?
The University of Alabama System is receiving applications for the position of University Counsel. This is an on-site position based in Birmingham on the campus of The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Reporting directly to the UAB Chief University Counsel, who reports to the General Counsel of The University of Alabama System, the University Counsel provides legal advice and services to the UAB and its affiliates. This position works closely and in coordination with the General Counsel for the UAB Health System.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated success in effectively serving a diverse and demanding clientele
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, and the ability to establish and maintain collegial and collaborative working relationships within the Office of Counsel and across UAB, UAB Health System, and The University of Alabama System
- Excellent legal research, analysis, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Education/Training/Experience
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama or must become so licensed within six (6) months of hire
- A minimum of 3 years of litigation experience is preferred
Responsibilities
- Providing legal advice and counsel, particularly involving litigation, regulatory compliance, business transactions, and employment matters
- Managing administrative matters
- Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing transactional documents
- Assisting UAB Chief University Counsel as needed, including research and drafting
- Other duties as assigned
