Native Student Services is a culturally grounded and student-centered office with a small, but great team! Native Student Services is currently recruiting for student workers to assist with the day to day tasks of the office. If you are interested we invite you to apply.

Working with the Native Student Services Office will allow the student candidate to have an opportunity to develop and learn new skills while working with a variety of students, faculty, staff and community members. As the first point of contact for NSS, the student worker will be friendly, reliable, and responsible for student support. The student must have the ability to be proactive and work independently. The student worker will serve as a positive role model and an active team player in establishing an atmosphere conducive to academic success and fostering a sense of belonging and community for Alaska Native, Native American, and Indigenous students.

To thrive in this role the successful candidate would have customer service experience, knowledge of Alaska Native cultures, strong communication skills with in person, over the phone and email communication skills, and must be able to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA regulations. Additionally, having good organizational skills, and the ability to follow instructions and exercise sound and independent judgment will be crucial.

Minimum Qualifications:

The student worker must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive/ Documents, Blackboard, UAOnline.

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:
a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee. d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer. e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

Position Details:

This position is open to undergraduate students only.

This is a student assistant 2 position working up to 20 hours a week, starting pay is $12.03/hr.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
