Job Summary
Under the direction of the Vice Chancellor (VC) for Development and Alumni Relations (DEVAR), the Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) manages and provides strategic direction to the Advancement Services team. The AVC oversees management of all campus-wide and UCDH philanthropic technology and support as well as centralized private philanthropic support acceptance, processing, and administration. The AVC manages, through subordinates, several complex technical departments and processing units with multiple functional disciplines that have critical impact upon the campuswide DEVAR organization. The AVC has significant responsibility for formulating and administering policies and programs, manages significant human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a very high degree of autonomy. This position oversees directly and through subordinate managers the accountability and stewardship of department resources and the development of systems and procedures to protect organizational assets.
Working with organization leadership and stakeholders, the Assistant Vice Chancellor establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to Advancement Services managers. This position is responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources. Scope and impact of project(s) have organization-wide effect. In consultation with DEVAR leadership, the AVC develops, modifies, and executes policies that affect UC Davis-wide programs of high visibility.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Direct knowledge and experience with relational databases or equivalent direct experience in information management administration, oversight responsibilities for database administration, or senior-level project management with database administration background.
- Comprehensive advancement services knowledge and broad knowledge of advancement information technology sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment, and direction.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in leading change management activities and managing their impact across multiple organizations across division, college, or institutional boundaries, with the skills to inspire confidence and to motivate and guide. Experience recruiting, training, evaluating, motivating, and coaching employees of various backgrounds.
- Knowledge and experience with CAE/VSE and higher education gift acceptance and reporting standards and knowledge and experience with IRS regulations governing philanthropic giving.
- Knowledge and experience with UPMIFA. Advanced project management skills and ability to understand the process involved to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied products for use within a large and complex technical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in a related area preferred.
- Documented organizational and management ability and skill to realize complex goals and objectives through strategic planning, and the ability to effectively present technical or complex topics to large groups and senior management with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.
- Knowledge of and experience with the university fundraising profession, and of contemporary issues and methods of higher education institutional advancement and fundraising.
- Expert interpersonal and communication skills, including diplomacy skills, to interact with a diverse population in a matrix organizational environment.

Advancement Services manages all campus-wide and UC Davis Health philanthropic technology and support, as well as centralized private philanthropic support acceptance, processing, and administration. Services provided include data visualization, programming support, data/information management, data analysis, system auditing, and compliance, formulation and implementation of gift policies, acceptance and processing of gifts, and user documentation and training. The organization consists of a customer services team, a help desk and training team, a business intelligence team, a data services team, and a gift services team
