Located in Central Development, the Corporate and Foundation Relations team works with administrators, faculty, program directors and development officers to build effective partner relationships, working to understand the needs and priorities of corporations, corporate foundations, associations and private foundations and to facilitate partnerships to advance UCI's mission.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Associate Director will manage and coordinate funding opportunities from foundations, associations, and corporations with a specific focus on the STEM fields with assignments to STEM schools such as Engineering or Biological Sciences. The incumbent will edit proposals, concept papers, case statements and various types of support and inquiry letters generally at the level of $25,000 for institutional fund-raising priorities with an annual fundraising goal of $1,000,000 and will serve as campus liaison with assigned foundations, associations, and corporations. They will coordinate with campus development officers, faculty, and staff to obtain appropriate information for proposal preparation, oversee the submission of proposals and grant reports and maintain submission deadlines.


Your Role on the Team

  • Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques. Required
  • Working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure. Specifically, an understanding of academic, research and education functions and operating principals of a major research university will be useful. Preferred
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc. Required
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials. Required
  • Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification / avoidance / resolution, and project management skills. Required
  • Possesses traits of good judgment, and discretion in communicating with colleagues and constituents and maintaining confidentiality. Required
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce or a comparable donor/prospect database system Preferred
  • Ability to work independently with department, school and institutional goals as well as collaboratively with alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff, and volunteers to achieve defined goals. Uses initiative to organize and follow through with complex tasks to meet deadlines. Required
  • Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving multiple and sometimes competing constituencies. Required
  • Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private philanthropy in general and in particular as it applies to UCI. Required
  • Resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to problems and initiative in presenting alternatives and implementing solutions to ensure effective change. Ability to anticipate problems and take necessary action to eliminate or mitigate potential negative effects. Required
  • Proven ability to use Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and database programs. Familiarity with the Internet and how to conduct searches. Required
  • Ability to prepare written proposals and collateral materials tailored to the interests of prospective corporations and foundations in a style that is clear, accurate, action-oriented and compelling. Required
  • Proven project management skills demonstrating an ability to organize work so as to meet regular deadlines, often managing many projects during the same timeframe. Required
  • Ability to develop and analyze project budgets for inclusion in proposals. Preferred

    The expected pay range for this recruitment is $81,900- $90,000 (Annual).


    Required:
  • 3-5 years of professional fundraising experience, preferably at a higher education institution; or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Required to drive on occasion in order to perform the routine or essential job responsibilities for the position. Must possess a valid California driver license and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
  • Bachelor's degree in the sciences and / or equivalent experience / training. PhD or Masters in the STEM sciences preferred.
