Job Summary
Provides overall academic support to the Mission of the Herbst Academic Center. This position provides academic services to student-athletes in a professional and collaborative work environment. Teaches executive skills to new and returning students and holds them accountable. Creates daily reports for each student and communicates regularly with the Herbst Academic Center staff.
This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department’s Mission Statement, Diversity and Inclusion Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the BIG12 Conference and the NCAA.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Provides intensive academic support and assistance for assigned at-risk students in a small group or one-on-one setting. Helps facilitate the student-athlete’s academic transition to college. Motivates students to fully engage in their academic life and promotes the development of academic success. Teaches students about academic integrity and academic fraud. Assists students in organizing their time and priorities. Tailors the sessions to meet the needs of each student.
- Teaches executive skills such as goal setting, time management, note taking and study skills, test taking skills, organization, prioritization, and communication. Teaches students how to create daily and weekly academic objectives that are specific and measurable. Confirms class attendance through note checking. Holds students accountable to meeting times/dates, behavior expectations, and academic objectives. Facilitates students upwards through the established academic tier system.
- Creates detailed reports following each individual session using the preferred digital reporting system. Communicates immediately with HAC staff if there are urgent issues.
- Facilitates learning by supervising and maintaining appropriate study hall work environment. Confirms students are working on scheduled/required academic objectives and class assignments. Communicates regularly to HAC staff.
- Other related duties. This position will be 100% in-person as it is student facing.
What We Can Offer
- The salary range is $53,000 - $58,000 annually.

What We Require
- Bachelor’s Degree. One year experience teaching, tutoring, counseling or providing academic support to student.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- Willingness to work a non-traditional work schedule, including availability on Sundays.
What You Will Need
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to assess student learning needs and strengths.
- Ability to develop teaching material and teaching objectives suited to student needs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Suite.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Master's Degree, or progress towards a degree, in Education, Counseling, Sport Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience teaching, tutoring, or providing academic support to student-athletes in higher education.
- Experience working with students who have been identified as at-risk.
- Knowledge of NCAA academic rules and regulations.
- Experience using Teamworks.
