Job Summary
University of Colorado Boulder Science Discovery encourages applications for a Temporary Summer Program Assistant! The Assistant will work directly with our K-12 students in the classroom assisting in hands-on facilitation, classroom management, and STEM instruction. Program Assistants should be ready to share their passion for STEM topics and help participants engage with the content.

Who We Are
CU Science Discovery is a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education outreach organization in the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Science Discovery collaborates with CU faculty, research groups, institutes, and graduate and undergraduate students to develop and deliver hands-on, inquiry-based programs for K-12 students and teachers that feature CU STEM research and model standard methodologies in instructing and learning.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The overall safety of all students in their care while at camp.
- Classroom Management:
- Reinforce lessons by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups or facilitating engagement of students.
- Follow program and class rules to instruct students proper behavior.
- Help teachers with recordkeeping, such as taking attendance, injury reporting, behavioral reporting.
- Get equipment or materials ready to help teachers prepare for lessons.
- Supervise students outside of the classroom, such as between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips.
What You Should Know
- This is a temporary, part-time position anticipated to last until August 2023.
- This position is fully on-campus.
What We Can Offer
- Salary: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour.
Benefits
Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.
What We Require
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.
- Appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Prior experience working with K-12 learners is incredibly valuable to be able to help our students have the most fun and meaningful learning experience.
- Undergraduate experience in a STEM program.
- Passion for working with children.
- Previous experience with Higher Education summer programming.
