HDI's vision is to see everyone in Connecticut have equitable access to opportunities to enjoy good health and well-being. The Bioscience Connecticut Initiative created the center in 2011. HDI is unique in its dual charge: fulfilling the academic obligations o a Type II center and our legislative mandate to eliminate disparities among residents in the state of Connecticut.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Support multiple externally funded grants and contracts on Black male health equity.
Provide frontline support for Institutional Review Board /human Subjects Protocol development and monitoring.
Support HDI pre/post award management functions for grants/contracts.
Assists in design/development of complex NIH foundation, and research projects/programs/contracts(pre-award)
Prepares and reconcile monthly reports of grants and contracts and prepares ad hoc reports, such a NIH Research Performance Progess report (post- award)
Conduct outreach to partners and recruit participants for research projects.
Collect data for research projects, including but not limited to in-depth interviews and Delphi sessions.
Serve as a liaison with funders for research projects
Assist with conducing and preparing literature reviews
Assist with the preparation of reports, correspondences, policy briefs, white papers and manuscripts for externally funded grant and contracts
Performs other duties as required by senior leadership

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Considerable knowledge of relevant research protocols, principles, procedures
Considerable knowledge of relevant advanced scientific techniques
Knowledge of research practices; knowledge of experimental design, mathematics, statistics, computer applications.
Oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently, to attend to detail, problem solve and be organized
Some supervisory ability.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
A Master's Degree or PhD in a relevant discipline (such as Psychology or Public Health), plus two (2) years of work experience in health research .Â
Substitutions Allowed:
Bachelors Degree and three (3) years of appropriate research experience, preferably in a health science/health care setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbents in this class may be required to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases.
Must have demonstrable work experience in health disparities, health equity, services utilization and/or experience in community engaged/participatory research, and survey research.
Experience working with racial/ethnic minority males
Experience with psychoeducational interventions and curriculum design and development
Extensive experience and expertise with Microsoft Office(Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, PowerPoint Access, etc.)
Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods
Submission of research manuscript and health policy related writing sample may be requested. (e.g. ,health policy brief or research paper)
A skills assessment during the interview may be required.
 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants with background in population health, health disparities, social sciences, economics, social work health equity and health policy

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbents in this class may occasionally be required to lift standard laboratory equipment/supplies; may be exposed to some risk of injury from such elements as toxic vapors, and toxic radioactive materials and/or disease bearing substances; may be exposed to moderately disagreeable conditions.
