Context of the Job :
Under the general direction of the Chair, the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Education, and the Business Administrator, the Academic Advisor II will administratively manage the Departments undergraduate program, provide quality undergraduate student advising, support the undergraduate student programming in Biomedical Engineering, and other related undergraduate student activities as needed. Responsibilities include participating in formulating the department strategy for recruitment, support, and retention of undergraduate students and managing a fiscally sound budget in collaboration with the College Business Office and the Department Chair. The Academic Advisor conducts special studies as required to include summarization, analysis and interpretation of data. The Academic Advisor II may supervise or guide the activities of other staff.
Major Responsibilities :
- Provide student advisement, including academic, New Student Orientation, registration, academic / career options, course scheduling, and / or refer student to personal counseling services as needed. Support the department Undergraduate Education Committee in planning, execution, and evaluation of educational initiatives including outreach, marketing, and retention of undergraduate students.
- Provide support and coordination of administrative aspects of the undergraduate advisement enterprise in collaboration with the College Undergraduate Advisement Office.
- Respond to inquiries, investigates, and resolves problems related to undergraduate transactions handled by the department.
- Manage and update students applications, files, and records. Assist students in the completion of required forms.
- Inform students of curriculum change, internships, REU opportunities and assist students in the completion of required forms. Monitor, record, and rank departmental undergraduate students progress during Fall and Spring semesters.
- Interpret and explain college and university policies and procedures.
- Support the undergraduate recruitment processes and tracking.
- Provide information sessions for prospective students, manage students for guided tours, provide coordination and support to ensure student progress toward degree completion and graduation.
- Review and certify Senior Checkout for all graduating seniors. Provide support with course scheduling, registration and academic / career options.
- Respond to inquiries, investigate, and resolve problems related to undergraduate transactions handled by the department.
- Plan, coordinate and participate in on-site undergraduate student recruiting weekend fairs, student orientation and other events.
- Prepare and present academic information to students and parents.
- Schedule Courses for all Biomedical Engineering classes.
- Avoid / resolve conflicts of departmental courses with each other and with courses outside the department that are part of the departmental curriculum.
- Coordinate all aspects of Course Evaluations, Curriculog Edits, and reminders to Faculty of important deadlines.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
