DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Perform administrative staff work supporting development and administration of research policies.
- Assists in assessing research program planning needs and program priorities.
- Drafts reports and responses to internal and external inquiries concerning research programs and policies.
- Provides advice to the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship (VPRS) and Assistant Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship (AVPRS) on research-related issues, analyze issues, and work with units of the University to resolve such issues.
- Assists the VPRS in conducting complaint and grievance investigations, analyze information gathered through fact- finding, participate in discussion on rendering decision on complaints and grievances.
- Responds to inquiries from internal/external groups on behalf of the VPRS and AVPRS.
- Conducts background research and draft position papers, reports, recommendations, presentations on research initiatives, activities, and programs.
- Independently work on research and special projects assigned by the VPRS and the AVPRS, including collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data from a variety of sources.
- Assists in identifying opportunities for strategic research development.
- Researches, review, and interpret Federal, State, and private funding opportunities in targeted priority research areas.
- Identifies and disseminates extramural research funding opportunities targeted to faculty member's research expertise.
- Assists with the coordination of faculty research travel awards, internal competitions for limited submission grant opportunities, and other OVPRS initiatives, activities, and program.
- Keeps up-to-date on research related matters at the UH Manoa.
- Identifies and assists faculty in apply for honorific awards.
- Manages and coordinates UH Manoa faculty expertise database and other collaboration analytic tools.
- Assists in the development, organization and coordination of pertinent research summer programs.
- Assists in a variety of research administrative activities as may be assigned by the VPRS and the AVPRS.
- May serve as the designated representative of the OVPRS in various committees, task forces, and agencies.
- Coordinates and supports postdoctoral and student research and scholarly work in collaboration with graduate degree program, UH Manoa Graduate Student Organization, and Graduate Division.
- Facilitates postdoctoral research scholars' career advancement and promotes an enriched community for postdoctoral research scholars in collaboration with programs and units at UH Manoa.
- Acts as the liaison to the University of Hawaii Foundation (UHF)
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD degree in an academic discipline from an accredited university or college of recognized standing or equivalent experience.
- Three (3) years of professional experience in higher education, including grant development, data collection, analysis, and report writing related to academic or research settings.
- Knowledge of research administration or related field.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Program planning and evaluation/research skills.
- Computer competency in word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external constituencies of the university.
