The UH Hilo School of Education serves as a resource to area educators teaching in a culturally rich and diverse setting and conducts, as well as guides, action research to expand knowledge of teaching and learning, providing high-quality, integrated, inquiry- and place-based undergraduate and graduate programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate campus-based and web-based courses in Elementary Education, graduate courses in other education-related areas as needed and assigned.
- Advise students.
- Supervise teacher candidates in schools.
- Engage in curriculum development, program assessment and accreditation.
- Engage in scholarly work and publication.
- Perform service to the institution and discipline.
- Engage in partnerships with schools, education agencies, out-of-school-time (OST) programs, and the Hawai'i Department of Education.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. at the time of appointment.
- Minimum of three years of K-6 classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to teach preservice elementary teacher education courses.
- Evidence of the ability to establish a productive research agenda.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Evidence of successful experience in working with various K-6 schools in Hawai'i or other schools with diverse populations.
- Evidence of successful experience with school accreditation, program evaluation or data teams.
- Evidence of successful experience working with pre-service or in-service elementary teachers in mathematics or literacy.
- Evidence of experience mentoring, coaching or supervising students.
- Evidence of experience with culturally responsive pedagogy and/or place-based teaching.
