Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • * Supports comprehensive communications plans for both internal and external audiences such as community organizations, the media, interest groups, and the general public about Water Resources Research Center and its programs.
  • * Supports internal and external communication, including web pages, social media, press releases, newsletters, and announcements.
  • *Prepares graphics-related materials for digital/printed materials and scientific/technical products for communication. 
  • *Develops and maintains relationships with stakeholders, including local water resource stakeholders and National Institutes for Water Resources.
  • *Assists with outreach initiatives, including event planning and community engagement activities.
  • *Provides support to WRRC seminar series, symposiums, and conferences. 
  • *Assists with drafting and reviewing memos, reports, correspondence, etc.
  • Compiles, formats, and edits content from Pls for the WRRIP annual report; compiles and input information for the WRRIP 5-year evaluation report.
  • Provides fiscal, administrative, and human resources support, including procurement, payment, reimbursement, travel request and completion, and personnel and other actions.
  • Ensures proper organization, retention and storage of pertinent records (e.g. establishing, maintaining and updating eFiles and archives).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in communications, marketing, media studies, information technology, engineering science or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for public information; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of public information demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  3. Function knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with public information.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of public information.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software, including desktop publishing software, including office and multimedia software suites.
  8. Demonstrated excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  10. Efficient time management and organizational skills.
  11. Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of business hours, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Desirable Qualifications
  1. Demonstrated experience in editing scientific reports.
  2. Experience with web-based content management systems, basic web posting and editing skills.     
  3. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of fiscal and human resources management demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
