Description : Position Summary :
The University of Illinois Retzky Chicago College of Pharmacy is recruiting for a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Pharmacy Practice with Dr. Paola Rosas' laboratory supported by NIH and AHA funding.
Our laboratory aims to understand the relation between heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and metabolic disorders that are more frequently seen in postmenopausal women. We focus on P21-activated kinase 1 (PAK1) regulatory activities and how these activities are governed by estrogens in the heart and the adipose tissue. We have different murine models of heart failure and we use non-invase and invasive techniques to evaluate cardiac function and metabolism.

Duties & Responsibilities :
- Design, perform, analyze, and interpretexperiments aimed at studying the pathways that lead to heart failure due tostressors such as aging and obesity.
- Support pre-clinical studies in murine models of heart failure and obesity.
- Conduct animal experiments that include echocardiography, pressure - volume measurements, skinned fiber measurements, metabolic phenotyping, biochemistry studies, among others.
- Communicate research results via scientific publications or presentations at national and international conferences.
- Possess and applies comprehensive knowledge or research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
- Special projects and other related duties as assigned.

The budgeted salary rate forthe position is $50,000 - $65,000. Salary is competitive andcommensurate with qualifications and experience, while also consideringinternal equity.
