Job Summary
College of Medicine Director of Philanthropy, a top front-line fundraiser in the College of Medicine (COM) at the University of Kentucky, is responsible for major gift fundraising in the College of Medicine.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Philanthropy in COM, the incumbent will have a primary focus on major gift fundraising at high giving levels, engaging in sophisticated giving conversations with prospects of greater capacity.

Will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects with a giving capacity of $25,000 or more.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining a well-rounded portfolio of between 60 and 80 donors and prospects, and making a minimum of 120 substantive face-to-face visits with major gift donors and prospects a year in order to advance the philanthropic relationship between them and the university.

A minimum of 20 – 30 major gift proposals/solicitations prepared and delivered annually is required. The incumbent will be responsible for closing a minimum of 15 – 20 gifts annually with an additional 5 – 8 in the pipeline for solicitation the following year, raising a minimum of $1 million – $3 million annually as a direct result of individual portfolio activity.

Must be an active participant in the daily activities of the college, particularly those relating to philanthropy. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the incumbent will connect with associate deans, college administration, department heads, faculty, and staff as appropriate on the established philanthropic goals within the context of the university’s capital campaign.

Must be able to strongly articulate the University of Kentucky’s needs, values, ambitions, fundraising priorities through excellent verbal and written communications. Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Education/Experience
Proven track record of soliciting and closing gifts in a campaign environment. Experience with major gift fundraising in an academic institution preferred.
