The University of Maryland, Baltimore's Office of VP Philanthropy has an exciting opportunity for an Annual / Alumni Giving Officer II .

The Office of Philanthropy provides leadership for the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) University-wide philanthropic enterprise in support of UMB’s strategic directions and those of its schools. We are inspired by our clients : donors, faculty, students, and University leaders. The office includes Annual Giving, Corporate and Foundation Relations, UMB Foundation Finance, Gift Administration and Donor Relations, IT Support, Planned Giving, and Development Research and Prospect Management.

With expertise and focus on the University wide enterprise, the Office of Philanthropy staff builds capacity and efficiency through strategic planning and core services. In consultation with unit development staff and within the context of the annual campus fundraising goal, this division sets expectations for performance and productivity outcomes. In addition to managing the collection, disbursement, and auditing of private funds through the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation, Inc., this office maintains a sophisticated database of donors, alumni, and other friends of the University. We collaborate daily with the schools’ deans, development officers, program directors, administrators, and faculty members as they manage multiple research, service, and teaching projects. The selected candidate will perform duties that support the mission of the department.

Primary Duties :

  • Plan and coordinate annual fund or alumni campaigns that acquire, renew, retain, and increase all levels of annual giving donors or alumni. These plans include annual giving metrics that are comprised of : total $'s raised; total number of events; participation of targeted prospects and donors; number of new donors / prospects acquired; number of new donors / prospects acquired at leadership level; total number of appeals.
  • Contribute to annual solicitation calendar and work plans, which include setting goals, objectives, tactics, and milestones.
  • Monitor assigned project budget and expenses. Formulate and execute effective communication / marketing materials and solicitation activities within specific market segments identified as having potential for the greatest growth, including creating and editing of all solicitation appeals. Coordinate regularly with development officers, chairs, directors, unit administrators and other members of academic units and encourage faculty to broach fundraising ideas, provide introductory information to donors / prospects, and support event functions.
  • Evaluate program results using market research and results from peer institutions to identify areas of success and revision.
  • Participate in planning meetings, accept special assignments, assist colleagues, and provide support for all ongoing programs and operations, as needed.
  • Prepare routine reports on annual giving trends, donor participation, and fundraising costs, and analyze data for use in goal setting and planning, and for building strategies for the future.
  • Execute strategic initiatives that may have internal or external impact and establish annual giving or alumni relations direction. Responsible for short and long-term projects and campaigns for the annual giving or alumni programs and activities. Prepare routine reports on annual giving trends, donor participation, and fundraising costs, and analyze data for use in goal setting and planning, and for building strategies for the future.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education : Bachelor's degree.

Experience : Three years of development experience in annual giving, phone-a-thons, alumni relations, special events, or fundraising, or higher education development experience.

Supervisory Experience : N / A.

Certification / Licensure : N / A.

Other : Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and / or experience is required only directly related education and / or experience may be substituted.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Hiring Range : $75, - $84, (Commensurate with education and experience).
