Essential Functions
The National Counterterrorism, Innovation, Technology, and Education (NCITE), a DHS Center of Excellence (COE) at the University of Nebraska Omaha, is seeking a candidate to work as a graduate research assistant in the newly established Cyber Threats Analysis Lab (CTAL) supporting and managing initiatives for NCITE and the University of Nebraska Information Science team in the Student Security Operations Center (sSOC).
The GRA will work closely with the faculty lead of the center, as well as other faculty and students in execution of project tasks. The GRA will be expected to work in-person for the 20-hours per week assistantship commitment and make themselves available for high-profile events and distinguished visitors. Additionally, the GRAs will be expected to participate in additional NCITE meetings, and support the annual NCITE conference, briefings, and other NCITE initiatives as needed.
Primary Duties include
- Engagement and Project Management: Engage with NCITE consortium partners, develop, and refine processes for engaging with the sSOC. Create and track policies for working relationships, metrics and analytics reporting.
- Development of Publications and Presentations: Advance CTAL research initiatives including the development of presentations and publications (e.g. Educause), guided data collection and analysis for CTAL research initiatives, creation of cyber threat visualizations, and NCITE human-behavior lab studies.
- Communications: Work closely with the NCITE communications team to develop weekly and monthly communiques around CTAL initiatives, products and collaborations for center, university, and external stakeholders. Lead onsite engagements with outside community members and existing collaborators.
- Technology Event Support: Work closely with NCITE operations and events team to assist with setup or prep of technology requested in a demo or event. At times, support running equipment as it is being discussed by researchers.
This position could be hired as a Spring 2025 Graduate Assistant or Graduate Student Worker (Hourly) to be decided at time of hire. Non-US persons are available for hire with confirmation self-reporting requirements will be met. No Student or Work Visa will be offered with this position.
Work Schedule

Required Qualifications
- Must be a UNO graduate student in good standing, enrolled in courses Spring 2025.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and a desire to work with new software.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be willing and able to work hours in person in the office.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
- Upon hiring, must complete IRB Training and CITI Certification (required to work with human subjects for research), as well as DHS security trainings. (All training completed at UNO at no cost to student).

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with all levels of people in a professional and courteous manner.
- Comfortable with Public Speaking
- Passionate about homeland security research and/or willingness to learn.
- Conscientious work ethic to meet important deadlines.
