Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Office of Financial Affairs manages the financial and budgetary aspects of the School. ASOD Finance has the overall responsibility for developing, planning, monitoring, and managing the personnel, non-personnel, and operating budgets of the Adams School of Dentistry. |
Position Summary | The Accountant position is primarily responsible for the accounting duties associated with a portfolio of funding, with the majority comprised of contract and grants, which include internally and externally funded awards for the Adams School of Dentistry. The position will work with one pre-award business officer and one additional post-award accounting technician overseen by a business officer and the Associate Dean for Research, Discovery, and Innovation within the Adams School of Dentistry. This position is also responsible for daily processing of vouchers, travel, purchases requisitions, cash advances, deposits, budget revisions and journal entries. This includes ensuring proper documentation is obtained and are reconciled in a timely manner. This position reconciles all department purchasing cards monthly and independently recognizes and resolves any issues with the accounts. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in accounting; or Associate's degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Prior knowledge of accounting fundamentals and strong analytical skills; strong working knowledge of Excel, including the ability to develop formulas for moderately complex spreadsheets; attention to detail, strong organization skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and to trouble-shoot and resolve problems of some complexity where no precedent may exist; ability to ensure accuracy and validity of moderately complex transaction while ensuring adherence to accounting standards and regulations. The candidate must be a team player with a strong work ethic and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, and students in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | The following qualifications are highly desirable: Working knowledge of accounting software of UNC financial systems including RAMSeS, Peoplesoft (ConnectCarolina), Infoporte, applications including check request and CABS; working knowledge of purchasing card processes and/or impress checking accounts. |
