General Description / Primary Purpose
The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) and the University of North Florida invite applications for the position of Coastal Training Program Coordinator. Located near St. Augustine, Florida, the GTM Research Reserve is one of 30 sites around the U.S. that make up NOAA's National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS). The GTM NERR is managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), which contracts with UNF to fulfill part of the reserve's management plan.
Job Functions
- Provide information and training on GTM NERR research and management to internal staff, partner agencies, land managers, and relevant organizations. This includes but is not limited to topics such as estuarine ecology, coastal resilience, water quality, invasive species, mapping technologies, low impact design, and habitat restoration.
- Communicate causes of habitat, species, and ecosystem service changes to decision-makers, policymakers, partner agencies, and other professionals.
- Provide workshops on relevant best management practices, coastal resilience, and conservation action items.
- Facilitate collaboration among researchers, resource managers, permitters, municipal staff and other agency staff to prioritize and implement research for coastal natural resource management.
- Conduct formal and informal needs assessments among audiences described above to prioritize training, workshops, and communication channels and materials.
- Participate in local, regional (Northeast Florida), and NERRS advisory committees, workgroups, and teams relevant to the items listed above to provide information and stay informed on these topics.
- Supervising Coastal Training staff (typically 1-2 positions, funding dependent)
- Writing, reporting on, and managing grants; developing and managing annual work plans and budgets
- Supporting the administrative function of the reserve by providing high quality reports, products, and materials on-time

Required Qualifications :
This position requires either (a) Master's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization; (b) Bachelor's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; or (c ) 6 years of direct experience.
