SUMMARY:

The AVP, FCGR directs the operations of the Office of Foundation, Corporate & Government Relations and partners closely with the Vice President for Advancement and AVP, Development to determine and operationalize the division’s strategic fundraising priorities. The AVP also cultivates, solicits, and stewards a pool of active institutional and individual donors capable of making transformational gifts to the institution. This position reports to the VP for Advancement and partners closely with the AVP, Development to facilitate communication about funding priorities and initiatives and capitalize on connections between individual and institutional donors to promote and support coordinated fundraising efforts across the division.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Foundation, Corporate & Government Relations:

The AVP leads the University's foundation and corporate fundraising efforts, in addition to the FCGR office’s work with faculty and deans to secure government grants, and sponsored research contracts. Responsibilities include working with the president, provost, and deans to secure institutional funding for priority projects and initiatives; ensuring that the office identifies appropriate funding sources for faculty and staff grant seekers; meeting with or arranging meetings for university officials with foundation and corporate leadership; convening interested faculty to work on project ideation and design; and writing and/or editing major proposals. The AVP maintains strong relationships with campus partners and funding organizations, stewards private funders and oversees all aspects of applicable compliance related to the acceptance of external awards. The AVP also serves as the primary institutional point of contact on all intellectual property matters, administering the institution’s IP policy and protecting University assets, in consultation with the General Counsel.

Fundraising Leadership:

The AVP partners with the VP for Advancement and other fundraising leadership colleagues to identify, develop, articulate, and pursue those projects, programs, and initiatives deemed strategic fundraising priorities for the university.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive experience in organizational (corporations and foundations) and individual major gifts fundraising.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in government grant seeking and all aspects of research administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure 7-figure (and above) gifts, with the ability to mentor, prepare, and motivate others to do the same.
  • Experience managing complex gift solicitations and grant negotiations, successfully navigating communications with multiple stakeholders and a diverse range of funding instruments.
  • Strategic communicator with ability to translate initiatives into clear and compelling language for donors and Advancement colleagues.
  • Extraordinary interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively represent the institution to a wide spectrum of constituencies.
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity, creativity, and a commitment to working collaboratively across the institution.
  • Experience leading complex programs, and managing teams of high-performing professionals.
  • Must have courage of convictions, exercise mature and independent judgment, maintain confidentiality, and communicate tactfully and diplomatically at all times.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment that requires the ability to meet deadlines, while simultaneously maintaining flexibility, patience, and accuracy; a sense of humor and attention to detail are musts.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • 8-10 years of fundraising experience (organizational and individual), including program management, is required, preferably in an educational institution.
  • 3 years of grants management and research administration experience required.

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week; nights and weekends, as required; some travel

SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 11 (Hiring Range $98,709.00 to $135,722.00)
