Job Summary :
Reporting to Ramathasan Thevamaran, the CNT Research Specialist will progress the research, development, and manufacturing scale up of carbon nanotubes (CNT) for use in various applications, including protective helmets. The individual will work in Thevamaran Lab and collaborate with corporate partners to translate design specifications into viable, innovative products.
Non-local travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
Responsibilities : Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
- 40% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
- 5% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
- 10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and / or documents results for presentations and / or reporting to internal and external audiences
- 10% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
- 5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and / or student workers
- 10% Performs literature reviews and writes reports
- 20% Collaborates with industry partners on product design specifications .

Education : Required
Bachelor's Degree
Engineering field required; Mechanical Engineering or Material Sciences Engineering preferred.
Preferred
Master's Degree
Preferred Master's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Qualifications :
Experience in materials research required.
Minimum 2 years of academic or corporate experience in research and / or product development preferred
Experience in product design preferred
Experience in advanced material products manufacturing preferred.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Appointment Type, Duration :
Terminal, 24 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and / or funding
Salary :
Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information :
This is a terminal position expected to last for two years from appointment date; with the possibility of changing to Fixed Term Renewable status if there is a need for an ongoing appointment and / or funding becomes available.
