What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist I position at University of Wisconsin Madison?
This position requires an individual with advanced skillsets who can be a self-starter in the lab. This person will provide research and technical support for circadian-based projects involving animals, which is essential to the overall research mission for the Leone laboratory. The need for research and technical support in the laboratory is necessary given ongoing funded research projects.
Responsibilities: Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and helps to prepare the results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.- 30% Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures
- 30% Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
- 5% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
- 5% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
- 5% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
- 5% Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
- 5% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
- 10% Develops and implements increasingly complex research methodologies, procedures, and criteria related to the study of circadian rhythms using murine model systems
- 5% Develops, reviews and edits protocols to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency

Required
Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field such as Nutrition, Microbiology, Animal Science, Pharmacy/Pharmacology.
Required
-Good organizational, management, and office skills. (Examples may include-Time Management, Communication, Setting Goals, Delegation, Working Under Pressure, Self-motivation, Analytical Thinking, Other relevant examples)
-Demonstrated experience handling, compiling, and organizing data in a timeline manner.
-Prior lab experience working with germ-free animal models, anaerobic microorganisms, DNA extraction, and protein purification required.
Preferred
-Prior experience training students in a lab environment preferred.
Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Terminal, 24 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding
Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
