Job Title: Director of Operations

The Production Manager plays a critical role in the production of all customer jobs and parts by managing end-to-end production operations, quality, materials, and people. The Production Manager supervises all production department managers assisting with a large diverse workforce, and they are directly responsible for building production team capability and culture while controlling labor hours and costs. The Production Manager is responsible for the largest portion of the company’s budget and has significant impact on profitability. The Production Manager may interface with customers, general contractors, engineers, installers, inspectors, and other external parties. The Production Manager is integral in managing and updating company standards for personnel, safety, materials, inventory, equipment, and other areas that control the overall work environment, while leading department managers with implementation.

Primary Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions:

  • Design, develop, and deploy the company’s production management system to all departments and staff to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize UD’s standard processes and improve and update, to yield high quality products that meet specifications and efficiencies of cost in production operations.
  • Confirm and possibly design an equipment maintenance program throughout the company. Without our equipment we cannot produce.
  • Utilize quick problem solving and resourcefulness to deliver answers and simplified solutions.
  • Directly manage all production department managers including:
  • Molding (CNC milling, mold/plug construction, Fiberglass Parts)
  • Welding (metal frame welding)
  • Finishing/Packaging (part finishing, transportation, packaging, and shipping)
  • Production (Mold set-up, Product Casting/Spraying (GFRC/GFRG), frame setting, demolding with equipment maintenance.)
  • Maintain all necessary operating policies, standard work processes, quality controls, and other procedures to maintain high standards of manufacturing excellence, product quality and cost management. Coordinate updates when needed. You will have assistance in the actual updating.
  • Communicate and coordinate all production schedule variances and operational activities with Sales, Project Management, Master Scheduling, Quality, and other groups to ensure smooth and organized unit production, quality, and delivery.
  • Collaborate with Master Scheduling and department managers to plan, manage, and continuously evaluate and adjust team crew sizes and labor hours to meet plan requirements and maintain production capacity.
  • Ensure the daily production schedule is received from Master Scheduling and that it is well calibrated to current crew, capacity, and capability limits and that all production department managers have created their department plan for the day to achieve the schedule requirements.
  • Ensure all APA and LA City plant certification standards are followed, and the product quality control program is functioning effectively in each department and all units produced each day meet customer specifications. When defects are discovered, take action to determine root cause and develop and install effective preventative actions, process, or personnel training and/or changes.
  • Lead the daily operations stand up meeting to review performance and solve problems related to schedule, quality, cost, delivery, people development, safety, inventory, and other important areas of operations.
  • Directly responsible for shop and yard safety program, training, compliance, inspection, incident management, and record keeping ensuring no safety incidents or lost time hours are incurred.
  • Collaborate with HR regarding adjustments to the department organization structure and correspondingly hire, train, develop, coach, review, discipline, and terminate department managers and other personnel to ensure a highly capable and well-functioning work crew and culture.

Qualifications:

  • 4-year college degree in business, manufacturing, engineering, or related field. OR;
  • Minimum seven (7) years’ direct experience managing a manufacturing operation and workforce of 40 individuals
  • Experience in mold/plug design and construction, CNC milling, concrete/gypsum spraying, metal fabrication, and mechanical equipment maintenance is a plus.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret a tape measure, architectural blueprints, construction drawings, and other technical documents is a plus.
  • Expertise in lean manufacturing principles, methods, and tools with demonstrated ability to effectively deploy them to all work areas and personnel in ways that improve performance and culture.
  • Effective communication skills in speaking, writing, and presenting work instructions, technical information, schedules, status, and the ability to resolve conflict quickly and effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift 50 lbs.
  • Fluency in Spanish language is a definite plus!
