JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

Title:                    Classroom Monitor

Reports to:                        Assigned Teacher(s)

Evaluator:                            Elementary Principal

Job Objective: This position provides assistance and supervision for children during daily classroom activities, lunch and/or assigned recesses to ensure a positive and safe environment.

Minimum Qualifications: • Meets highly qualified standards. Valid state department of education license/certificate appropriate for the position.

  • Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, ).
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board
  • Keeps current with technology and other workplace innovations that support job
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and communicate technical
  • Ability and commitment to keep current with innovations used by staff in the classroom(s).

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the

  • Supervises students in the classroom and provides support for individual students when needed.
  • Supervises students in front of the school either before or after school as determined by the Principal.
  • Supervises students in various settings around the district as assigned by the principal and maintains a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of
  • Circulates throughout the cafeteria during mealtime if assigned by Helps students by opening packages and milk cartons. Cleans up spills and provides additional assistance as needed.
  • Assists students through the cafeteria line in an orderly
  • Insures students are orderly and acting
  • Interacts with students to maintain order and provide assistance when
  • Directs movement of students to and from playground, lunchroom and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.
  • Assess playground for security and conditions of equipment and reports concerns to
  • Reports disciplinary and other concerns to the building classroom
  • Provides assistance for students requiring additional educational
  • Maintains safe environment for students at all
  • Responds to emergency situation (injured students, fights, etc) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Evaluates student injuries, determines course of action, performs minor first aid and completes required paperwork in compliance with District policy(ies).
  • Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as
  • Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and
  • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
  • Attends work regularly and is Provides prompt notification of absences.

  • Pursues growth opportunities that enhance professional performance and advance district goals.

  • Strives to develop rapport and serves as a positive role model for others.

  • Maintains a professional Wears work attire appropriate for the position.

Working Conditions:

 

To promote safety, employees are expected to exercise caution and comply with safety regulations and district policies/procedures when involved in the following situations/conditions.

  • Balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and
  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • Exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, and
  • Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Interactions with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly
  • Operating and/or riding in a
  • Lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.
  • Traveling to meetings and work
  • Using a computer keyboard and monitor for prolonged periods.
  • Working in proximity to moving mechanical

Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Scioto Valley Local School District Board of Education.
