Summary
Contracted to Upstream Risk Management, you will be permanently embedded and working on site within Amazon's corporate security (ACS) Crisis Management team, supporting the corporate Crisis Management Program in the AMER region, and focused on East Coast US and Canada. The scope of the role extends to Amazon corporate offices and people only; e-commerce fulfillment infrastructure and data centers are not in scope.
You will be responsible for ensuring that the ACS Crisis Management Program in AMER is aligned to the business and delivered to a consistent standard across the region. Working with leaders from the Crisis Management Teams (CMT) and Incident Management Teams (IMT), you will facilitate whole life-cycle activities in crisis preparedness, response, and recovery. You will also act as a trusted advisor by providing subject matter expertise while enabling a unified coordinated response when a crisis impacts Amazon business operations.
The Role
The Regional Crisis Manager is responsible for monitoring ongoing and emerging threat, assessing potential impacts on Amazon employees and business operations, and mobilizing the appropriate Crisis Management Team (CMT). They play a critical role in stabilizing incidents and guiding the affected region back to business as usual.
In addition to active crisis response, this role oversees training and education programs for IMTs and CMTs, ensuring personnel are well-prepared. The Regional Crisis Manager brings plans to life and enhance readiness and resilience across the organization, by designing and facilitating realistic and engaging tabletop exercises, scenario-based training, and simulation drills.
Following an IMT/CMT activation, the Regional Crisis Manager leads after-action reviews (AARs), documenting key lessons learned and implementing process enhancements to strengthen future response efforts.
What You’ll Do at Amazon:
Training & Awareness; Stakeholder Relationships (60%)
- Assist in planning, coordinating and delivering crisis management training for Incident Management Teams (IMT) and Crisis Management Teams (CMT).
- Support the development of tabletop exercises, drills, and simulations.
- Maintain training schedules, materials, and participation records.
- Track crisis preparedness efforts and highlight potential response gaps.
- Build relationships with key internal and external partners, including security, intelligence, facilities, and business leaders.
- Help coordinate cross-functional meetings and crisis working groups.
- Monitor identified and emerging risks and assist in updating crisis management plans accordingly.
Incident & Crisis Support (30%)
- Assist in incident and crisis activations, supporting communication and coordination efforts.
- Work with facilities management, security, intelligence, environmental health and safety, and other teams to facilitate the response.
- Help document incidents and contribute to After-Action Reports (AARs) and process improvements.
- Monitor and track ongoing crises, providing updates to key stakeholders.
Administrative & Program Support (10%)
- Maintain incident logs, training records, and team rosters.
- Assist in keeping crisis response plans, policies, and procedures updated.
- Support the development of crisis reports and data analysis for leadership.
- Provide general administrative support to the crisis management team and AMER lead.
Essential Requirements:
- Demonstrable passion for crisis management, risk analysis, corporate security, and training.
- Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, security, business, international relations, or a related field OR equivalent professional experience.
- 1-3 years of experience in crisis management, emergency response, business continuity, corporate security, or a related discipline.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to support multiple projects at once.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills necessary to build relationships and positively influence decision making.
- Flexibility to participate in an on-call rotation, including out of hours crisis response.
- Operate IT, including MS office, online applications and ability to learn new, proprietary internal tools.
- Ability to travel internationally (e.g., Canada, Latin America).
- Ability to lift up to 15lbs.
Preferred Requirements:
- Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII), International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), or other crisis, emergency, or professional certification.
- Familiarity with incident response frameworks, business continuity, or risk management.
- Experience working in security, intelligence, or emergency response environments.
- Proven track record of sound decision making, earning trust, taking ownership, and delivering results in a high-stress leadership role.
- Skilled and experienced at delivering interactive and realistic crisis exercises and training sessions.
- A critical thinker who can dive deep into data and existing processes, especially while actively managing a crisis.
