Summary/Objective:
The Shop Laborer's responsibilities include housekeeping of the shop and equipment, keeping all areas and walkways clear of any trip, slip, or fall hazards. The Shop Laborer will clean and organize tools, hoses, and fittings, complete deliveries, and inventory of new and used equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Operate forklift in a warehouse and yard setting.
- Cleans parts with petroleum-based solvents or similar cleaning methods.
- Rust removal, Painting surfaces to protect against elemental damage.
- Periodic preventative maintenance.
- Inspection of equipment to ensure safe operation.
- Assembles, disassembles, and repairs components.
- Evaluates worn and used parts, and when necessary, order new and rebuilt parts from parts books, shop parts personnel, and/or outside vendors.
- Completes assigned service reports needed to document parts and labor expenses and repair methodology.
- Performs miscellaneous housekeeping duties including sweeping and mopping floors, painting shelves, racks, aisle markers, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School or Diploma with relevant industry experience.
- Must be capable of operating a forklift in a warehouse setting.
- Minimum 2-4 years of loading and unloading experience with forklift.
- Must be capable of securing equipment onto trailers and flatbeds with chains and straps.
- Must be capable of conducting inventory, maintaining accurate records, and restocking shelves.
- Respond to emergency calls 24 hours, 7 days a week if called upon.
- Ability to perform duties by training and standard operating procedures
- Ability to understand and follow specific procedures and directions.
- Excellent written communication.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, move, and handle up to 50lb
- Physically capable of standing and/or walking continuously for long periods if necessary.
- Physically capable of climbing, balancing, bending/stooping, and kneeling continuously.
- Physically capable of climbing ladders and scaffolds (vertical and inclined) to heights over 10 ft.
- Physically capable of frequently crouching, pushing/pulling, squatting, and working above the shoulders during the performance of the daily job routine.
