Responsibilities

The University Hospital Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) is seeking a passionate and dedicated HVIP Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical role in supporting patients recovering from gunshot wounds (GSWs) and their families as they navigate the complex social and emotional challenges of their recovery journey. The HVIP program provides a holistic approach to supporting patients recovering from GSWs and their families. We offer a range of services, including:

  • Psychosocial support and counseling services
  • Collaboration with community partners to connect patients with essential resources.
  • Skills training programs (parenting education, anger management).
  • Ongoing monitoring and evaluation to ensure program effectiveness.


The HVIP Specialist is a key member of the HVIP team, working collaboratively with social workers, program coordinators, and community partners. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting comprehensive psychosocial assessments of patients and families to identify their needs, strengths, and resources.
  • Collaboratively developing case plans with patients and families that outline specific interventions and support services.
  • Providing direct services to patients, such as individual counseling or participation in support groups.
  • Collaborating with social workers to identify and facilitate referrals to essential community resources (financial assistance, housing support, job training). Monitoring patient progress towards case plan goals and documenting outcomes. Working collaboratively with the social worker to address any challenges or obstacles that may arise during the case management process.
  • Willing to work some evengins and some weekends.
  • Strong clinical interviewing and assessment skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and culturally diverse environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain and complete assigned certification courses.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.


Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working with at-risk youth or individuals recovering from trauma. Experience in providing individual/group counseling or related interventions. Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama is preferred. Trauma-informed care experience preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
