Supervisor Laboratory

• Ensures the efficient and orderly operation of the analytical laboratory and supervision of the Laboratory Technicians to provide accurate and timely analysis of product. Supports instrumentation analysis and maintenance for ensuring regulatory compliance and low operating expense.
• Provides direct supervision of laboratory employees to ensure high quality of work performed and laboratory analysis is performed in a safe, timely and accurate manner.
• Maintains technician qualifications and development program. Responsible for performing annual test method verifications and proficiency for each technician.
• Provides supervision and leadership to laboratory technicians to ensure laboratory analysis is performed in a safe, timely and accurate manner by applicable methods.
• Updates KRONOS laboratory schedule by Friday each week.
• Coordinate and adhere to vacation scheduling, distribution of overtime, and safety requirements.
• Communication of corporate policy and documentation of training with laboratory technicians.
• Responsible for cross training all technicians in A and B position and maintain the rotating schedule to ensure technicians are working in both A and B labs to maintain proficiency.
• Conduct quarterly evaluations of lab technicians alongside with the lab manager to assess lab technician proficiency. Coach and document all positive and negative actions of the Laboratory Testers.
• Address non-compliance with company policies and procedures, through coaching and disciplinary action if necessary.
• Monitors the electronic shift log reports on daily basis to ensure these are being filled accurately by shift testers addressing all the issues in the lab.
• Maintains standing orders within the electronic shift log for routine communication to lab technicians.
• Maintains overall safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the laboratory.
• Champions laboratory management of change.
• Maintain the Laboratory HVAC, Exhaust system, Gasses, hoods and control systems.
• Write work requests as needed.
• Works with corporate and IT personnel to address any issues related to the transmission of data between Lab Vantage and other software.
• Serves as a LIMS administrator and maintain test method specifications in LIMS and review the specifications with operations on a semi-annual basis to revise the specifications.
• Maintain consumable inventories, laboratory supplies (SAP), and sample retains specific.
• Assists personnel outside the department in the collection, evaluation, and distribution of Laboratory data. Assists operations with the special projects/ any lab related questions in process troubleshooting and process improvements.
• As an instrument SME, ensure that the equipment is operating at maximum capacity and monitor the performance via QC trends in LIMS/QC plus and Perform periodic Inspection, cleaning, repair and maintenance. Maintain the proper inventory of equipment supplies.
• Calibrated and schedule PMs for designated laboratory equipment as per the method/vendor/company requirement. Maintaining calibration and PM records and schedule for every designated instrument.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining the SOPs related to the test methods within your area of expertise.
• Maintains a current equipment inventory log.
• Keep the instruments properly tagged for mechanical status and calibration status.
• Responsible for review and archival of finished gasoline batch paperwork by following the SOP guidelines.
• Responsible for participating in Incident Investigation Corrective Action Report, HMAI and NHMAI.
• Facilitates laboratory shutdowns and startups in coordination with laboratory or emergency response.
• Steward the lab personnel in LPG, HF, Iso-recycle and RGA testing.
• Maintains inventory of LPG, HF and Iso-recycle cylinders and trains lab personnel on maintaining of cylinders.
• Permit writing and perform weekly and quarterly rotational duties as mentioned in the SOP.
• Designated backfill for Laboratory Manager Roles and Responsibilities as Fuels Compliance Leader.
• Assumes responsibilities of Refinery Chemist responsibilities in coordination with the other chemists during their absence.
• Periodically audits implementation of procedures/checklist to correct non-compliance issues.
• Provides support with internal and external assessments.
• Assists lab manager and Lead QA personnel in evaluating and setting the policies and procedures for lab operations, developing new methods and installing new instrument.
• All the duties mentioned above and extra duties assigned by lab manager.
• Participate in OES Maintenance Ready to Schedule/Ready to Plan meetings.
• Executes winter preparation as per winterization procedure.
• Reviews and revises the laboratory Health and Safety Manual, coordinates and conducts monthly safety audits of the Main lab (3-member audit team: Lab Manager, Lab Supervisor and QA Coordinator) and prepares and submits lab-oriented safety flashes for site-wide distribution.
• Timely completion of VSEP field audits.
• Annual review of sample schedule for rationalization of frequency and need.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 8 years of laboratory testing experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Computer Science preferred.
• 2 years of lab experience in a refinery, chemical, or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Formal training in Laboratory Testing, Chromatography, or Computer Technology preferred.
• GC Training, QC Plus/D6299 Training, preferred.
