Student Support Team Coordinator
Position Description
VMS is seeking a staff member to fill a new position - that of Student Support Team (SST) Coordinator. The right candidate for this position will have Montessori teaching experience in more than one level (and ideally is credentialed at more than one level, as well), possess a four-year college degree or higher, and have a deep understanding of how to meet children’s needs academically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally. The right candidate will have the capacity to develop and implement systems, processes and procedures to establish the Student Support Team (SST) process/system across all ages at VMS, has great attention to detail and follow through, and will possess the ability to have difficult discussions with teachers and parents.
YEAR ONE, the person in this position will:
Develop systems to track students of concern across all levels (Toddler through Middle School), arrange meetings to discuss student progress, and track that action items are executed by the responsible parties.
Serve as the liaison between the teaching teams, parents and outside providers of intervention for students (e.g., speech, OT).
Hold regular SST meetings with teachers to identify students needed more support or some accommodations, including follow-up meetings to track success of the accommodations implemented.
Schedule and ensure that parent education occurs throughout the year
Schedule and organize two consortia for staff professional development, one for each semester, in areas of staff interest and need.
Observe students when needed to gather additional information regarding challenges.
Coordinate and ensure execution of parent education to preschool, elementary and middle school parents/caregivers.
YEAR TWO, the individual will add the following to their responsibilities:
Implement an Assistant training program, helping to onboard new Assistants to VMS in such areas as Montessori philosophy and education, positive discipline, classroom management and fostering the development of new skills that will serve children and staff teaching teams.
Join with the SEL team, helping to foster seamless support for all students in need.
