Job Title: Human Resources Lead

Accountable to: Executive of Ministries

  • SHARE CHRIST WITH OTHERS - In word and deed, inside and outside of the church walls, introduce people to Jesus. Pray and look for opportunities in your sphere of relationships to testify about Jesus. 
  • STRIVE TO MAKE IT BETTER - Do your best work for the Lord while being dependent on Him. Lovingly give feedback to others while humbly accepting feedback from others.

Partner with leadership to build a thriving and supportive work environment that empowers staff to effectively serve our congregation and fulfill the church's mission while overseeing the VRL’s employee experience, from the application process to when an employee leaves the organization.

 

KEY JOB DUTIES

On-Boarding and Off-Boarding of Staff

  • Work with hiring manager on job postings/job descriptions for open positions. Help with recruiting for positions that are hired outside of VRL membership.
  • Assist the hiring manager as needed with screening and interview process. 
  • Oversee the onboarding process of new staff: offer letter, hire paperwork, benefits enrollment, BambooHR setup, and other onboarding tasks through BambooHR. 
  • For any staff leaving, complete off boarding tasks through BambooHR.

Payroll

  • Monitor time off requests and timesheets in BambooHR. Ensure staff record their time off requests accurately as well as hourly staff recording time worked.
  • Run payroll reports and verify for accuracy and transfer information to accountant.
  • Work with accountants to ensure timely & accurate payroll processing.

Benefits

  • Oversee the benefits renewal process.
    • Work with brokers and vendors on plan renewals that best fit VRL and the staff.
    • Prepare updated enrollment information and ensure smooth enrollment to any new plans.
  • Be proactive in managing staff changes that may affect mid-year enrollment in benefit plans.
  • Have a thorough understanding of all the benefit plans.
  • Manage retirement plan and arrange enrollment and education meeting.
  • Ensure pastoral housing allowance is updated each year and signed by appropriate leader.

Budgeting and Salary Planning

  • Prepare salary surveys for the annual budget season and make recommendations for increases based on internal equity, performance and overall compensation budget.
  • Update Total Compensation Reports once a year.
  • Manage health and welfare benefits renewal to budget.

Staff Development & Training

  • Track and update job descriptions.
  • Work with supervisors on employee performance issues.
  • Develop staff trainings that affect the entire staff.
  • Help identify career paths & succession planning.
  • Assist with goal setting seasons.

Miscellaneous

  • Ensure that policies, procedures, and practices are applied consistently and effectively.
  • Own and understand all aspects of BambooHR.
  • Monitor any workers’ compensation claims.
  • Together with Facilities Supervisor oversee compliance with WISHA regulations.
  • Update Employee Handbook.
  • Employment verifications & references.
  • Keep accurate records of and lead/assist in investigations of abuse allegations, sex offender issues, misconduct, security related issues, etc. that are confidential in nature.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Years of Experience: 3-6 years - experience or equivalent employment and volunteer-based experience.
  • Education Required: Degree advanced training in field of expertise preferred, or combination schooling and education and experience.
  • Major/Minor: N/A
  • Certifications/Licenses: SHRM-CP/SCP or equivalent certification
  • Management/Supervisor Experiences: N/A

EXPECTATIONS

  • Attend VRL church services on a regular basis.
  • Have attended a DNA class, signed a membership agreement and be in alignment with VRL.
  • Be in a small group on a regular basis.
  • Committed to regular giving of income to God through VRL.
  • Abiding in Christ and continuing to grow toward Christ-likeness and spiritual maturity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, clear communicator and humble-like character.
  • Self-motivated and looks for additional areas to contribute.
  • Ability to multi-task and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to make adjustments in work style for the benefit of the team.
  • Typical workweek will be Mon-Thu (approx. 7.5 hours a day) but must be able to flex schedule as there are seasons of irregular work hours based on events, classes and other church activities.
  • Attend monthly All Staff meeting and participate in department meetings or other meetings when requested to do so.
  • Work in close association with the entire staff to build and maintain a strong team environment among our staff and complete the work necessary to fully serve and support the ministries and events of VRL.
