The incumbent directs an organization that is responsible for the organization, direction, planning and control of the operation including manufacturing, purchasing, shipping, human resources, safety, accounting, and quality assurance. On an ongoing basis, the incumbent ensures that a high quality product is produced and delivered in a timely manner to the customer while optimizing manufacturing and operational efficiencies. Essential Functions: Responsible for directing, training and assessing the production/ material manager’s activities in order to meet or exceed plan objectives of the division. Including: SCOT Burden Variance OSHA Rate Quality Occurrences Sales and Operating Profit Inventory Turns Manufacturing Expense per Recovered Hour Execution of the master production schedule, and the long and short-range capacity plan. Oversee and ensure areas of responsibility are meeting customer requirements in a timely and logical manner. Manages and coordinates activities between marketing, engineering, manufacturing, production control, dispatching and off site in order to meet customer requirements Monitors manufacturing performance to the agreed upon production plan and shipping schedules. Recommends corrective action as required to insure a high level of on-time customer shipments. Identifies and analyzes specific problems associated with information flow, data collection, and existing computer systems. Communicates on a regular and discretionary basis, departmental, divisional, and company information to the hourly and salary employees. Responsible for proper inventory levels to balance inventory costs with appropriate available material to meet master Production schedule Leads development of the site’s 3 year Strat Plan, Annual Operating Plan, and annual budgeting process. Provides direction and training for all department personnel. Establishes and maintains a high degree of morale and initiative in department employees. Insures that all company policies are followed in respect to department employee matters such as discipline, performance evaluations, promotions, and terminations. Insures that all equipment is operated in a safe and efficient manner consistent with company policy. Insures that the integration of the Valmont way is communicated and implemented within all departments the incumbent is responsible for. Responsible for all aspects of ensuring a safe working environment: Demonstrates a commitment to the Valmont Safety Mission Statement and site SBO plan. Participates in the development and implementation of the annual Site SBO Plan, complete those tasks assigned to this position and provides necessary support and resources to have 100% of the plan completed. Completes documented site safety tours annually. Provide executive leadership and direction through The Valmont Way program. Guide the development and performance of control activities at the site level, including communication of controls expectations to site personnel. Responsible for determining resource requirements, training needs and internal control procedures that address relevant objectives. Make recommendations on controls, monitor their application with process and provide accountability to senior management for responsibilities in internal control. Maintain appropriate professional competencies and evaluate the capacity, staffing levels, and competency of the functional area’s personnel. Ensure that reporting staff also maintains professional competencies, certifications and or licenses that are a requirement of their position. Provide training and development opportunities to direct reports, as appropriate. Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Preferred Bachelors with 7 years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 9 years relevant experience or 11 years of relevant experience Seven or more years of progressive management experience in a manufacturing environment Extensive experience with budget and cost management Working knowledge of all areas of production from material procurement, transformation, through to shipment Experience using MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) Ability to travel up to 10%, including overnights Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications B.S. in Manufacturing, Business, Technical, or related field is preferred Masters’ Degree Prior experience as a Plant Manager of a manufacturing facility Working Environment and Physical Efforts: Work is typically performed in a manufacturing plant environment and the incumbent needs to be able to move about the office and production environments. There is often exposure to conditions such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, and cold as well as noise levels above 80 decibels. Many aspects of this role are physical and the incumbent has to be able to lift up to 50 lbs. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, as well as balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
