Van Am Tool & Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Assurance / Quality Control Specialist to contribute to the continuous improvement of our operations.
In this role, you will conduct quality checks, including first article inspections, using a variety of measuring devices, such as Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM).
You will assist in maintaining and updating our Quality System through documentation, training, and practice, ensuring compliance with our quality management system and customer specifications.
From concept and design to production and delivery, you will help ensure defect-free products.
As part of your responsibilities, the Quality Control Specialist will maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to company standards, legal regulations, and policies.
You will conduct first article set-ups and inspections according to customer specifications, perform mechanical inspections using equipment like bore gauges and micrometers, and program and operate portable CMMs to collect critical inspection data.
You will approve materials, in-process production, and finished products based on specifications, performing visual and measurement tests and documenting inspection results in our quality database.
Additional duties include maintaining equipment, performing internal audits, and continuously updating your knowledge through educational opportunities.
Problem-solving and strategic thinking skills are essential, as you will help identify root causes of issues and contribute to both short- and long-term solutions.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, with an associate degree in a related field preferred. Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is beneficial, with one to five years of experience in programming and operating CMMs and using measuring equipment.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100, as well as quality tools like 8D, SPC, and 5 Whys, is also preferred. Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, are required, as is proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and CMM software.
The Quality Control Specialist role involves physical demands, such as walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and using lifting devices and precise measuring tools.
The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and moderate to high noise levels.
