Vance-Granville Community College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Special Projects to join our team. These individual coordinates special projects on behalf of the President, frequently involving senior officers of the College as well as external entities and partners.
The Director of Special Projects will be responsible for planning, implementing, and executing a wide range of initiatives that align with our strategic goals and objectives. This is a leadership position that requires exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills. This position requires organization, persistence and follow-through, as well as creative thinking to develop and promote ideas and initiatives that can move the College forward. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of driving successful project outcomes and possess the ability to work cross-functionally with various teams and stakeholders and will be essential in driving innovation, efficiency, and growth within the College.

Teleworking

Essential Duties
Director Of Special Projects Responsibilities
- Plan and execute projects from initiation to completion, ensuring on-time delivery, within budget, and meeting quality standards.
- Identify project goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Monitor and track project progress, providing regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, deliverables, and milestones.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration among team members and stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Evaluate project performance and identify areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Finance and Operations in the oversight of all construction and renovation projects for the College, including planning, bidding, state inspections, code requirements and purchases.
- Work with the President and Vice President of Finance and Operations on coordinating the annual budgeting process, the mid-year budget reconciliation process and financial information as needed.
- Provide project support to the President’s Executive Leadership team
- Serve as representative of the President at meetings or on committees as appropriate.
- Perform administrative and other duties as assigned.

- Initiative to communicate and coordinate with affected departments, offices, and stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Understanding of North Carolina State Government purchasing and construction processes.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
For all staff positions, salary determinations are based on the minimum educational qualifications required and the number of years of relevant experience associated with the position. The entry-level salary at VGCC corresponds to individuals with minimum years of experience for this role. Conversely, to qualify for the upper end of VGCC's salary range, an individual must have over 25 years of experience relevant to the position.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Proven experience as a successful project manager or director of special projects, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated learning agility.
- Ability to handle multiple projects at a time
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and managing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Masters degree
- Project management certification
