JOB SUMMARY
The VMF Training & Governance Accountant collaborates with management, tech, various VMF business units, change management, Talent Acquisition & TMX team, and accounting team members to help develop, communicate, and train on policies and procedures. This position also assists accounting teams with FASB research and other regulatory pronouncements and applies that guidance to current processes.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Administer and Develop Training Material for all departments in Vanderbilt Accounting
- Collaborate with Vanderbilt Accounting leaders to understand training and development goals and design related training programs.
- Partner with the Intermediate Procedures Analyst and department Subject Matter Experts (“SME”) to design and create various technical accounting, excel, and other systems/applications training courses, job aids, and content.
- Lead training workshops/seminars (both in-person and virtual) for accounting teams.
- Develop training courses for non-accountants related to budgeting, financial statement reviews, and general accounting concepts.
- Develop a formal new hire orientation and training program for accounting team members.
- Document processes for LOS and create specific accounting training sessions/materials that do not occur with project implementation.
- Recommend updates to accounting policies and procedures and assist in updating the documents.
- Collaborate with enterprise Learning & Development team to understand initiatives and look for opportunities to partner with them.
Accounting Support and Governance
- Help create and support existing accounting departmental internal audits to identify training opportunities and create a related audit plan.
- Document and maintain Enterprise Data Warehouse (“EDW”) queries for all teams and help develop controls for it.
- Establish and maintain an authority matrix to help ensure appropriate controls for all types of VMF transactions.
- Assist with documenting controls around accesses/tables and create audits to test the controls.
- Partner with accounting teams to document their policies, processes, and procedures and identify training needs; help them create audits for high-risk processes.
- Coordinates process and policy changes with management and accounting SMEs to ensure proper governance is followed across organization and ensures policy changes align with enterprise policies.
- Assist Intermediate Procedures Analyst maintain accounting SharePoint sites.
- Assist with Special Projects as needed.
- Assist with FASB research and other regulatory pronouncements and apply to current processes.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Four-year degree in accounting required, advanced degree and/or professional certification is a plus.
- Experience: 6-8 years’ experience in accounting, audit or related field; prior leadership experience preferred.
- Advanced knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong familiarity with Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and ability to research it and other regulatory pronouncements and apply that guidance to current processes.
- Open to receiving and implementing feedback.
- Project management skills, proficient in Word and PowerPoint.
- Querying skills, knowledge of Sequel ViewPoint, EDW, AS400, Accounting related ERP System a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple and/or conflicting responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
- Capable of gathering facts accurately, analyze causes, evaluate alternate solutions, and arrive at sound conclusions on action to be taken.
- Appropriate sense of urgency and follow-up in various situations.
- Willing to learn, hard-working, determined, and assertive.
- Great attention to detail, organizational and analytical skills, and excellent time management.
- Remains knowledgeable of processes that impact the team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
- Will be operating a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- Must be comfortable with various forms of communication including but not limited to email, Teams, over the phone, and Zoom.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information at all times.
- Will work in a state-of-the-art indoor temperature controlled, sealed window office environment.
